Welcome to the Telephone Boards Mike and well done on your savings so far.

You are right that you would need a BT line if you were to leave NTL altogether but what is suggested is have the figures to hand and phone NTL and say you can get a cheaper package by leaving them for BT, buying a freeview box or going to Sky and moving your internet.

Be firm and they will put you through to Retentions and make you an offer of a better package for 6/12 months. If its not a great offer tell them you will think about it and see if they come back with a better offer.

  • If I have no joy at dropping the price of my NTL "everything" package and decide to leave NTL, can anyone let me know if I can keep my xxx@ntlworld.com email address?

Normally the ISP address goes if you choose to cancel with that particular provider.

You can always get your own personal email address - ukreg.com! £6ish per 2 years for a co.uk!

Then no matter what provider you are with, you always have the same email!

  • In light of the other posts on this and other threads, I took advantage of the fact that I moved house last week to phone NTL and see what they could offer me. I currently get TV, Internet and phone from them and ws paying £35/month for 10mb Internet, £22/month for 140 channels of TV and approx £50/month on calls.

After speaking to customer services, they offered me a cheaper calls package but said they could do nothing on the TV or Internet. I said that the property already had a BT line and a Sky dish and could get much cheaper TV from Sky and 8mb broadband from Madasafish for £12/month.

They suggested that I speak to the Disconnections department as they may be able to do something else. After the call was transferred, the person picked up the phone saying "Customer Retentions", and I knew I was on to a good thing. After about 15mins of negotiation, they came back with a 50% reduction on all of my services on a rolling three month deal, meaning TV for £11/month, 10mb internet for £17.99/month and a cheaper call plan.

Maybe just because I was moving house but certainly worth the call.....

    Cheers,

    Miles

my three month offer expired - rang NTL - got through in 2 - YES 2 rings - asked for customer retentions - waited 5-10 minutes - explained that I am out of contract and what could they offer me - reply - 2mb b/b for £12.50 for 3months or a WHOPPING 10meg for £17.50 - believe me this is very very fast! I am testing this speed! :-) MORAL - If you don`t ask - you don`t get!! Will go back in 3months and see what else is on offer!! All for the price of a free phone call!
