I've just done this. I'm currently on 1Mb paying £17.99 pcm. After my initial call to 0800 052 2000, I was told that I need the retention dept on 0800 052 9403 or 0243. I rang the first number, said I wished to cancel and when asked, explained that it was too expensive and I'd seen a cheaper service (they didn't ask for any details). I was offered the same service for £9.99 a month for 6 months and after 6 months to "ring up and get the offer reapplied".
Following this, my colleague did the same. He's paying £24.99 for 2Mb and was offered free for four months and then up to the 10Mb service after 4 months.0 -
So they'll still be offering 1Mb broadband in the new year? They told me last month they were doing away with 1/2/3Mb broadband and that everyone would be put onto 10Mb @ £34.99. I thought it was a bit dubious at the time (and did query it in case I'd misunderstood) but I guess we'll find out soon enough.
JulesThe ability of skinny old ladies to carry huge loads is phenomenal. An ant can carry one hundred times its own weight, but there is no known limit to the lifting power of the average tiny eighty-year-old Spanish peasant grandmother.0 -
I have been an NTL customer for approx 8 years now. I have 2mb BB and the family pack TV package along with my phone. Last year I managed to get £5 dicount off my broadband, which I though was not bad but could have been better.
The discount lasted for 12mnths but was canncelled on my last bill.
I phoned up hoping to get a discount on my BB but was slight diappointed when they could only offer £8.84 a month (for the year) I metioned this to the operator who promptly offered me half price for my family pack for 6months. This is another saving of approx £9.75 per month.
Needless to say this was accepted.
The operator seemed desparate to please and said in 6 months when the price went up again to give them a call and they would have another offer.0 -
Just rang up. I only have phone and 10meg broadband with NTL. I researched the net and found out that Bulldog are offering 8meg, and phone line for £20.25 for six months. Then up to £35.00.
(You can find out all the suppliers available to you by visiting http://www.samknows.com/broadband/checker2.php and entering either your phone number or postcode)
I got free Phone Line Rental for a year. A saving of £126! and 10meg reduced from £37.99 to £19.00 for six months.
I was initially offered a match, but I haggled a little with the operator, and he caved in.
Do your research, and always negotiate with them!

Hi I'm going to give this a try - at the moment I'm on the 1mb for £17.99. Came across this **** which gives details of broadbands within your area and the current prices. Hopefully with this information at hand I might get a better deal.
***Sorry but I have removed the url for the website mentioned as it is an affiliate linked website and only mentions ISPs that pays the website owner for users who sign to an ISP via the website. This does not give a true picture of the best deals available to you. Thank you, Board Guide***

Hi sorry about the link but didn't realise. To update, I phoned NTL and without any hassle they reduce my line rental to £9.99 for 6 months . I'll have to remember to phone back in six months.0

Martin has a tricky litte reminder that you can use, called the Tart Alert which was designed to be used when an 0% interest rate on a credit card finishes but can be used for any sort of reminder

Have just been contacted by Toucan telecom https://www.toucantele.com and they have offered me B/B 2MB with unlimited downloads plus unlimited phone calls for £15.99 per month. It was one of these cold calls and the line was pretty bad so not sure how legit is was. Has anyone heard of this as it sounded good?0

Thanks for all the above messages - you inspired me to phone up and ask NTL Customer Services whether they would reduce our 1MB service at £17.99 a month, and I was offered 12 months no tie in at £9.99 a month. That's over £95 saved for the year. Thanks everyone.0

A big big thank you to the person who started this thread. I have been an NTL customer for years. My original package included phone and analogue TV £14.00 a month Broadband £17.99 a month Second phone line £7.50 Disney Channel - £5 ( Disney is watched all the time) average amount of calls per month £5.
Last week I bought a cordless phone thereby enabling me to cut off the second line - I had it originally when I was on dial up then ended up keepiing it due to having to have a phone when the broadband went belly up on me - it helps if you can sit by the phone and see the computer. I rang NTL up last week got the second line cut off saving me £7.50 a month ( the cordless one will pay for itself in 4 months)
Last night I read this thread and thought why not tell them I want a special deal. Today after doing the normal CSA route to Sales to retention - under 10 mins of my life wasted I was offered 6 months broadband £9.99 plus unlimited UK landline calls for free for 6 months. I make most of my calls in the evenings so I've saved circa £78.00 for the 6 months. I shall be ringing again in 6 months!!! :j :j   :j0
