Just called NTL on their sales number 0845 0450020 chose option 2, add additional services.

I have currently 2Mb broadband, phone and base pack TV. Current cost now £46.49 per month.

Explained I was thinking of leaving, was offered the 3 for £30 offer (no longer mentioned on their website, assumed it had finished), plus £7.50 per month for the upgraded speed.

Sales cannot downgrade my speed, said I can do that on website or phone customer services.

So for a 5 minute phone call, instant saving of £9 a month, will be £16.50 a month when a downgrade speed, as was quite happy with the 0.5Mb I originally had.

    Thanks for the tips
  • QuoteI just called up NTL and said i was thinking of cancelling my package (2mb broadband 24.99, family pack 19.99, phone line rental 9.99) all he could offer me was 6 month discount on family pack to 10.50, i said that i can get broadband much cheaper elsewhere at tiscali etc but he said he can only give one discount per account. Does anyone know if this true??????

Just to follow on my previous post, they was talking absolute rubbish, i rang up again today and I dialled 0800 052 0243 and selected Option 2. I mentioned that I was thinking of cancelling broadband, I was then transferred to customer services, (6 minute wait), I then said to the lady that I was thinking of leaving NTL as they were charging me too much, using 'fbrj's example of madasafish.com for 17.99 and Tiscali also 17.99, then saying how can it be justified that they are offering 1mb for 9.99 then charging two and a half times that much for the 2mb.

Result. She gave me 2MB for 12.50 for 3 months. (She also offered 6 months for 19.99) I also said whats the point as after 3 months i will be in the same boat again, she said I should call again and find out what offers they have.

It shows, persistance is essential. Don't take any blags of these guys, if they bounce you call back and speak to someone else. :D:D:D:D:D

Thanks to everyone who has contributed to this thread it has helped loads.

A quick reminder to everyone - don't forget to check your DD details. I didn't and after checking today I found that NTL were still charging me £17.99 per month for 1Mb instead of the £9.99 that they agreed to in August

A phone call and 5 minutes on hold later, a polite conversation with an NTL adviser, £9.99 per month for broadband for the next 12 months!!

Must remember to check the DD next month.

    cheers

Good on ya, I complained with good reason and now have a £19.00 reduction off my £38.00 TV,BB,Telephone package for 6 months and also a £90.00 credit to my account because I eventually complained to OfCOM for appalling service.

I called NTL a few months back and got my monthly Broadband reduced in price from £24.99 to £9.99 as per advice on this website. The catch however was that I would have to remain at a speed of 512 rather that get the new speed of 2mb that was due to be launched in my area. After 1 month at the new price they reverted my bill to £24.99 and gave the speed as 2mb. I sent them a letter asking them to repay the overcharged amount to my bank and also fined them a fee of £24.00 for over charging my bank account. I have not had a reply from them and they have since continued their higher charge this month.
Has anyone else had this sort of hassel?
    Eddmac2, Have a great day
  • I also got promised £9.99. Next dd was usual £17.99. When I phoned and complained I was told no such offer would have been made and was fairly sternly told I would get no deal and that I was welcome to cancel!
  • Just phoned NTL and asked what they could offer me to remain as a broad band customer - have now got 3 months half price broad band £12.50 ( 2 meg connection), as I also have my telephone with them, I thought I would push my luck, and have now got my NHS 'introductary' discount back again, even though ive been with them for about two and half years (its also the third time I have been given it), so line rental now £5.50.

The only thing im a bit miffed at, is every time I call to get a reduction its only for 3 months, yet my dad got a 12 month discount

Hi got a letter off NTL this morning informing me of a £2 rise in my bill per month. I have the family pack plus Sky Sports 1, 2, 3 & Extra plus phone and broadband (£17.99) my total bill is normally £60+ a month. Today I phoned up to cancel everything, especially as I hear brand new customers are getting special deals while we loyal users don't. But now i do. I've got upgraded broadband and a reduction of of £14 a month for a year. Result. I guess I'll be re-negotiating next year . £168 a year saving

Morning all! Thought I'd update you with the latest good news. I got my NTL bill this morning and discovered I'd misheard the girl on the phone. My total savings are in fact just over £20
You can always get more with a kind word and a 2-by-4 than with just a kind word.
  • hi all just thought id let you know my deal i just phoned for.used the 0800 number option 2 then explained that i was going to cancel as ive been with ntl 6 years, better deals with tiscali etc etc.straight away he said what if i can offer you discount?.im currently on 2mb for £24.99 and phone line rental £9.99.he said he could do 2mb for £16.99 which was good but thought id try to push it further.said it was okay but could he do free line rental aswell.said he would get back to me then came back to say this was done and would apply next bill!so from £35.98 a month down to £16.99 well chuffed! thanks to all on this thread for your help next im off to sky to beat down their monthly fee!

Not brilliant results for me - rang 0800 0520243, option 2, and spoke to a chap who claimed the best he could do was reduce the charge on my 2Mb link to £19.99 pm, guaranteed for "at least six months".

When I pushed him a bit further, saying that this was still £2 pm more expensive than Tiscali, he explained that he can only choose options from a menu on his screen, and that was the lowest price the system would allow him to offer me. He then said he would try to use other discount options available to him to reduce my bill. He offered to remove the £2 pm non direct debit charge, and then additionally offered to credit my account with £12 (six months worth of non DD charges). In effect this gives me a £9 pm reduction overall for six months - which equates with getting my 2Mb link for £15.99 pm for six months.

It would seem that NTL have a centrally controlled system of discounts they can offer, and as mentioned earlier in this thread, that this can change as and when they see fit. It would be interesting to see if anyone gets a better offer in the next couple of days.

He did mention that ALL of the broadband services will be changing to 10Mb in February, (i.e. no more 1Mb / 2Mb / 3Mb links) and the pricing structure will be based on how much you download instead. He didn't give any further details though.

I was hoping to get the £12.50 that others have got, but still, any discount is better than nothing !
