I have 10Mb broadband plus phone (which I don't really use) - any strategies for getting maximum reduction (other than "I want to cancel - I've seen Madasafish @ 13.99") when I live in a 512k DSL area ? Do the reps check via postcode for DSL availability ? I can see an intelligent rep saying "well sir, you can only get 512k in your area".

Any success stories out there ?
  • The only thing I can recommend is always remain extremely polite with anyone you speak to. You can maintain a firm stance, but still be courteous.

I would imagine several factors come into play when it comes to them deciding how much to discount - eg how long you have been a customer, your average monthly spend etc.

Looking through these threads, it is clear to see they is a big markup on the services they sell. To be able just to pop on a £100 discount would be testimant to that.

  • Hi,

I phoned NTL today and they halved my monthly bill.
    Before
    TV - Base Pack - £11
    Telephone - £10.50
    2MB Broadband - £24.99

    Now
    TV - Base Pack - £5.5 for 6 months
Telephone - free for 12 months
    2MB Broadband - upgraded to 10MB for £17.50 for 3 months

    That's a saving of £23.49 per month.

Just phoned cs, spoke to David, told him I would finish braodband and phone service, as he only offered £5 pm off bb plus free evening and weekend calls, before he actually cut these services I asked if NTL offer price match on madasafish etc, at this point he transfered me through to Phil who instead offered me £12:50 pm for a year bb which suited me better.

I was worried for a while though when they said okay to it being cut off a bit too quickly!

That's a good deal echo, but how many months have you got it for now?

I've just got 1 mb BB cutfrom £17.99 to £9.99 for 3months, or was offered 2 mb for £19.99. Also got TU 24 free for 3 months, after I threatened to change to BT(I really was ready to quit).

I've been told to ring again in 3months for a further offer on BB (I don't think same applies to TU24 tho  )

well i got my bill and it was a load of bull that the lass had told me.the TU24 hadn't bin applied cos they cudn't do it twice in succession i was told.i only rang them cos as usual i didn't understand the bill and figures didn't seem 2 add up.the £15.50 was rubbish i was told.after getting nowhere with the stupid CS woman i asked 2 b put thru 2 retentions.she wasn't really interested but has defo given me ( backdated i was assured) another 3mths of TU24 and i'll pay £23 while i'm with them 4 the fone line rental/2 meg BB.i'm thinking it over.that call was 26 mins long and i'm losing patience.wot's the point of taking sumbody's name if it's of no use when one queries summat?

    ooooooh

nxt time u ring i wud go 4 the 2meg.having said that i dunno when they're supposed 2 b upgrading us.i'm totally disillusioned @ the min and they'd really have 2 do summat 4 me 2 warrant staying.got until they start charging 4 CS calls 2 make up my mind.
  • NTL have recently started offering 1Mb broadband for £8.99 (for 3 months, then reverts to the standard £17.99) on their website. This is a web only offer which ends on March 31st.
About a month ago I followed others on this thread and got a 1Mb reduction to the then rock bottom £9.99 (for 6months). I wonder if
    1) NTL users here have spotted the new deal,
2)if anyone has successfully negotiated £8.99
    3) is it really good value given that the £9.99 deal is for 6 months, not 3?
  • I have just looked at my latest NTL bill and am paying
    £14 TV & telephone service
    £5 TV Mid Pack
£9.99 unlimited 1Mb( shows on the bill as £8 discount on the standard £17.99)
I wonder if anyone else is paying less for this package and is willing to give me negotiating ammunition!!!???
  • Thanks so much for this advice and a BIG THANKYOU to Martin. Just bought the book Friday and I've already started making inroads to cutting costs and making money so I can be mortgage free in 3 years. Basically phoned NTL, told them my bill was too high and as a result was moving back to BT, the girl at the other end was very nice about it all - end result - ONE YEARS FREE BROADBAND, HALF PRICE LINE RENTAL AND FREE TV CHANNELS! Wow, wonder if this will work with all the stuff I've to go through! Tomorrow's task - recommend my husband to open A&L account and between us earn £100. Excellent!
    Respect Martin!

    Thanks
