  • Hi,
I am currently paying 36.50 for the following,

    Telephone Line Rental
    Talk evening and Weekends
    Talk Mobile
    Tv size XL
    Broadband size L

Yesterday i recieved a call from virgin media offering to replace my standard box with a v+box for a one off payment of 25 pounds, with the same monthly charge that i pay now.

Is this a good deal and can i ask to keep my standard box for another room
They are calling back this afternoon for my decision so any help would be appreciated

    Thanks in advance

Hi, I have rang before and got a reduction. But just noticed on my last bill that I'm now paying £61 for telephone and 20mb BB. The only thing I get with the phone is evenings and weekends.

Also I have read that with the phone line I could have a free box offering me the basic channels. I have asked before about this box and was told I would have to pay an installation fee and yet I have read somewhere they can send the boxes to you to set up yourself along with a simple guide.

What's the best deal I could hope for if I rang? Not too good at haggling. I have been with NTL/Virgin for over 8/9 years. Do they reward loyalty?

What deals should I compare to to get the best deal for myself, and should I pay for installation of a box or ask for it for free?

Oh one more thing, what's the number I have to ring?

    thanks for your patience.

CelticFC - ring 150, option 4, then one or two other option choices that I can't remember (but are very self-explanatory).

You should be getting a far better deal on your current package - something like £25-£30 on a new 12 month contract.

You must have TV in for £61/pm please? If not then you've been ripped off royally for quite a while!

If you want cable freeview then ask for it within the new £25-30 fee. Ask for just a simple cable box to be shipped out, you rent the equipment any way so no purchase fee or installation.

If you want to know what people have been getting for around £61 then take a look at the VIP package here - http://allyours.virginmedia.com/websales/product.do?id=11029

No need to haggle - simply state what you have, tell them you've been advised that this is quite simply uncompetitive and you want something much, much better/cheaper.

    HTH.
  • I'm paying a combined £41.70 for the following...

    Tel Line Rental - £11.00
    Talk Ev & Weekends - £3.95
    Caller Display - £1.75
    BB Size L - £25.00
    cable freeview £0.00

Could I get this bill down any?
or even get them to up my BB Size to the XL as just looked at VIRGIN BROADBAND in the Half price broadband and it says
    £10.00 a month for first 3 months
Then £20.00 a month after that

    Thanks for the info.

No TV, I have asked previously and was told I would have to pay an installation fee. I also asked about them sending me the box for me to plug it in and turn it on. I was told only an engineer can do that.

I'll chase this up tomorrow sometime.

Will I have to go looking now for some comparisons to tell them where I'm thinking of going?

I'm and existing Virgin Media (previously NTL) customer.

I noticed the cashback deal for £6 TV Internet & Phone / month equivalent from Sky

I called 150, option 4 Got throught to Customer relations. They put me through to a "Local Agent"

Got my package reduced from £30 / Month to £19.50, and increased my TV from the Free package (size M) to Size L

    Phone and Internet options same

    Options now include
    Line Rental
Talk evenings & Weekends (plus Caller ID, Voicemail Plus and International Option
These options cost more than the £19.50)
Size M Broadband - 2GB, no download limit.
Size L TV. - Lots more channells than I had yesterday on their "Free" package.
I'm saving about £10 per month due to one phone call. Now tied in for the next 12 months.

Personal Note: Additional Advantage: I dont have to pay Rupert Murdoc a penny from this deal.

Looking for an opinion from someone who has dealt with the team before...

    We had before:

    Standard TV: 0.00
    Basic Line: £11.00
    Broadband L: £25.00
    Direct Debit Fee: £5.00
    Setanta: £8.00

    Total: £49.00

    Have been offered:

XL TV, Weekend and Evening calls, L Broadband for £35.00 per month, however we need to sign into a 12month contract (which I'm not happy about), plus Direct Debit fee of £5 so £40.00 saving only £9

To be honest... I don't like most of the channels on the XL pacakage, I very rarely use the phone all I want really is Setanta and 20mb Broadband, anyone got any suggestions what I should do?
  • Hello,

I have been guided here from another forum.

I am with Virgin Media and my situation is as follows -

We are with Virgin Media because when we moved in to our new house we were told it would be £200 to have the BT line 're-activated', but then they went and did it anyway, and tried to charge us when Virgin were already providing the service.

Now I feel we are paying over the odds - £37 for M broadband and talk evenings and weekends.

Virgin Media say to cancel would cost £132.

Do you think we could save this back elsewhere?

We also have Sky in which costs £17 a month.

Sky's all-in package looks good with the medium-level broadband and the call package which offers international calls (inlaws live in France).

I am rubbish at maths and am struggling to work out if there is a better deal out there.

02 have offered me broadband for £7.50 a month as well and Talktalk have flyered us offering a phone and broadband package for about £9.

I have read Martin's article BTW, am not being lazy.

I'm finishing with VM because i got a package off them on 30/4/07,2meg BB and talk unlimited for £10.49 12 months contract. After 3 months VM started charging me double this amount and I have tried to sort this problem out several times but VM don't want to know,i am sticking to my guns and only paying what i was advised then once the contract ends on 30/3/08,good riddance VM.
VM are full of lies, they give you an offer then when you phone again, bill is wrong thay say you were never offered these services at x amount.Ever since VM took over Telewest its gone down hill.

Celticfc, what VM are saying about the tv box is lies because they sent me a tv box and told me that it was easy to set up and i could do it.

this may be of relevance to some of you ..

i have been with ntl / virgin broadband for over 3 years now... last summer as i moved house, i decided to ring to cancel.. the lady on the other end said i could move my services to the new place.. anyway ... i said i wanted the phone as well and these 2 services should cost me £20 a month.. she said yea okay (think of it from my perspective, i was paying £10.50 to BT on top of my broadband) .. anyway i said tv is free with phone and she said yes so i got size m tv, broadband and phone for £20. i never asked for installation charges but she said as i was an existing customer, she has waived the standard installation charges. on the first bill after the move, there was a mention of installation charges but they never charged me anything. (there was another transaction negating the installation charges - manual override?!)

im now thinking of moving over to sky which offers a lot more value for money but i dont have a bt line. a friend of mine had to 'reactivate' his bt line and they wanted to charge him upwards of £120 but he went through their terms and conditions and somewhere it says you can get it free.. he has successfully tried speaking to the people at bt and i think im going to do the same.

I thought that Ofcom had forced BT to charge for reactivation as would also be the case for other service providers ? I got this info from this board I think so second hand info.
