    Just made my yearly call to retentions. I managed...

    TV XL
    BB L (10Meg by April)
    Telephone (free evening and weekend calls)
    V+ Box (existing user).

    £35 per month. 12 month contract.

    Up until now I didn't have the phone with them, but i'm ditching BT and taking the phone too.

    I am absolutely irate. After reading many people have made successfull calls to Virgin I to get a much better deal I called them today and was told NO DEALS in no uncertain terms.

    I called up and I thought I got through to retentions (I hope I did) I pressed the options for disconnections and got through to a woman who only offered me the deals that Virgin offer to new customers, ie VIP and such at the same price! So basically no discounts she offered me at all.

    How can I tell that I'm actually through to retentions and not just customer services? This woman seemed extremely unhelpful and wouldn't budge at all on the costs so I can only hope she doesn't work for retentions as it really peed me off what she was offering.

    Cant remember the options but if you afe on Virgin you can call 150 I think and then it is the option that you are moving house or thinking of leaving I think.

    Nbodoy else apart from retentions will give you a deal and its always worht calling back to speak to a different operator if no joy. I got the same deal when I called as mrmajika (post above you)

    Am well happy. Just got my latest bill and also got my £40 credit to it since I applied for and used a virgin credit card (spent a fiver on it!)
  • Virgin Media has confirmed that it will introduce a range of speed capping measures for those who download large amounts from the Net during peak hours.
    Peak hours count as 4pm to midnight, and Virgin claim that only the top 5% of downloaders on each tier will be affected.

    well thats the time most of us use it so thats a pain


    Those on tier M who download over 350MB during peak hours will have their downstream speed restricted to 1Mbps, and upstream to 128Kbps, for four hours.
    Those on tier L who download over 750MB during peak hours will have their downstream speed restricted to 2Mbps, and upstream to 192Kbps, for four hours.
    The top rung service, XL, will see users downloading over 3GB in peak hours having their downstream speed restricted to 5Mbps, and 256Kbps upstream.

    so No download limits but a nasty 'traffic management system'
    so think its time to go to some other broadband company very soon

    ive just moved to sky on 16mb for £10 a month. I cant speak highly enough of them at the moment. Set up vey fast, adsl modem sent out within a day, and I am regularly getiing speeds of 14MB. Wish I done it sooner.

    Virgin will try and rubbish adsl, old copper wires, distance from exchange etc etc, but I was on a 2mb connection for £10 a month and was lucky speeds of 0.5 - 1mb (explain that virgin). There traffic shapping is horrendous and is a result of them spreading themselves to thin.



    I would never ever go back to virgin again even if their service was free.

    Well thanks to reading on another thread here about Virgin's "XL Plus" bundle I called back and purchased that. It's £65 a month and is basically exactly the same as their VIP package minus the Sky Sports and Sky Movies channels (which I never watch anyway). So I'm pretty pleased as for a long time I've been paying the going rate of £37.50 for 20 meg bb and £11.50 for L TV with just one box (£48.50) and now for only an additional £16.50 a month I'm getting a load of extra TV channels, an additional V+box (I really did want this all along, in the bedroom) and their XL phone line which I don't really need but I'm sure I'll make use of it. It annoys me that the agent when I called the first time didn't even mention the XL Plus package, and I had to enquire about it the second time to be sold it. As if it's a secret or something? Maybe too good a deal for them to stomache, prefer ripping people off an extra £20 for channels they don't need without giving them the option of ridding themselves of the premier channels?

    By the way, the Virgin Media traffic shaping changed a few months back... their "peak time" hours during which you can only download a maximum of 3GB before being capped to 5 megs dl (on the XL package) is now from 4pm until 9PM which is much more reasonable than midnight I find... just set your downloaders to start at 9 for all those usenet goodies... :) I've always received 20 megs when I should do on this 20 megs connection, rarely do I find I get less than that so I'm very pleased with it.

    That was announced about a year ago. The terms of the above have changed somewhat as the peak time is now 4-9pm

    Well I called today and got told V+ was £75 despite Sky offering me a free sky + box - so I cancelled the lot - called Sky - far more user friendly tbh and if Virgin can't be bothered to come back within a couple of days I am merrily off after 9 years of trouble free paying to Virgin - think they are daft

    As an existing Virgin Media customer I managed to negotiate:
    TV XL + SkySports + Sky Movies
    Phone XL + talk unlimited + talk international
    BB L
    Additional box and a free V+ box with no installation costs.
    All for 72 pounds per month.
    Not sure if this is the best deal or not, but I called a couple of days before installation to confirm the price and was told I had been misquoted and I would actually have to pay a 75 pound V+ installation and the package would actually cost 82 pounds!
    After speaking to a manager I eventually got them to agree the original quote. But my advice is to always get any offers in writing or record the telephone conversation so that you have some proof.
  • Hi, i'm quite new to this and i'm wondering how would I negotiate a discount with Virgin Media? I have tried explaining to someone in the disconnections department that im not happy with how much i am paying as i can get it cheaper elsewhere for double the speed (o2's 8MB deal for £7.50). I have been with this company for at least 4 years and theyve just said that they cant do any discounts or anything because i am already in a discounted contract (£17 for 4MB for 12 months, ends next month :angry:)

    Any help would be much appreciated.
