I'm on virgin (old telewest) 2mb broadband paying £18pm, I thought I'd call retentions and try to get it reduced to £10 pm for a year as others here have done.
I was told there are no reductions available
Anyone got any tips ?
cheers

I got told the same thing on the phone just there like, not a lot we can do according to the advisor just keep calling back when the system has something updated on there. Not much use i thought!0 -
Don't just ring up and say you want what other peole have had. They have to think you are serious about quitting. Quote the other better deals from other providers. They will then hopefully give you a discount. That worked for me. If they say no just try again with another operator. Good Luck!0

Hi normanmark,
I called Virgin last night to complain about paying £18p/m for broadband, quoting 'other offers' were cheaper; they instantly offered to reduce it by £10.95 per month.
FYI I also subscribe to XL tv and Evening/Weekends phone.

I am with VM and am contracted until july 08. Is there any way I can reduce my bill down from £18/month or is it just for people out of contract?0 -

You could have had the whole package for £39 if you had read my post #1677
I'll quote it in a new post below.0 -

I think it is only people out of contract, but you could try. Ntl never used to play this "contract" game before when offering discounts, it's only happened because of the Virgin merger.
I think we should all start refusing tie in clauses. A consumer fightback campaign should be started to persuade everyone to refuse contract tie in clauses.
You should be on £10 a month for 2Mb BB only.0 -
My post quoted below seems to have been missed by most people. And some of you are on offers better than this and still phoned up for a further discount Mrfacthunt! (I think it was you). These offers are what you should be aiming for.
Also ColinW, you said don't just ring up and ask for a discount.... That's exactly what I do every year I phone them, I word it like this
"Hello I'm unhappy with paying the full rate for my service, I find it too expensive, and was wondering what discounts you could do for me."I just tried, armed with a "leaflet that came through my door" from a Virgin Media local rep. offering me 2Mb BB & phone with free weekend calls (01, 02) for £15.50 (currently paying £29 for the last 6 months)
Anyway his first offer was £22 for phone with free weekend calls and 4Mb BB.
I asked him what he could do if I keep the 2Mb BB and he said £15.50.
I then told him that's what it said on my leaflet, and if he hadn't offered me atleast that then I would have shown my poker hand so to speak. So he said he could not beat that offer , and I accepted it, but it does tie you in for 12 months.
Other offers on the leaflet include
£20
TV 35+ channels
Phone (free w/e calls)
2Mb BB
£25
TV 80+ channels
2mb BB
£11
35 channel TV
Phone (free w/e)
£30
2Mb bb
80 channel TV
Phone (free w/e)
£39
BB 2Mb
TV 120 channels
Phone (free w/e)
£10
BB 2 MB only
£32.95
120 ch TV
Phone (free w/e)

I just meant don't just ring up and say I know other people are getting discounts therefore I want one. At least you say it is to expensive therefore you want a discount.0 -
We have been with the above company now for about 6 years. I hasten add they have recently changed to this name and were formally known as Telewest etc. I rang them today to give the service up. We have a telephone, broadband and tv package with them. However the lady kept coming up with these deals for us rather than lose our custom.
In the end she said we could have about 150 extra tv channels and TV demand free of charge and our bill would be about £2.00 a month less. I thought great she then said of course this will mean you have to stay with us on a 12 months contract. At that point I said go ahead and terminate our service. The advisor then said ok we will not keep you on to a contract and can cancel anytime by giving us the usual 1 months notice.
So we now have tv, broadband and telephone for £30.00.
ps. Heading should have been Virgin Media.0 -
Is anyone able to advise me if this is a good Virgin Media Retention deal (previous retention posts seem to be very dated and I'm unaware if the offers have got better or worse) as I'm keen to get a V+ box but not keen on coughing £150 for a box I wouldn't actually own.
Telephone Line Rental: £11.00
Talk Unlimited: £7.95
Loyalty Pack: -£22.50 (this is the retention element)
TV Size: XL: £20.50
Broadband M: £18.00
Goodwill: £4.95 (due to cancelling various Sky channels)
Total: £30.00
It's on a rolling 30 day contract.
Ideally I would have additional box in my room, V+ in the lounge and my broadband increased. I'm believe I currently get a good deal but I may be wrong so am seeking confirmation really, seeking ammunition (not literally) for their retentions dept'.
