Virgin Media Retention thread

My daughter just has 2mb broadband in her student house. She started off with it at 8.99 for 3 months for new customer then after the 3 months she rang up to ask if she could have it at the 9.99 that everyone else seems to be paying now, they said yes didnt even check she was still in her first 12 months and gave her 9.99 for 6 months. When the 6 months ran out despite people being told on here including me when I ring up by virgin staff that they cannot apply discounts to any account they put her another one on, rounded it up to £10 a month for another 12 months so they can apply the discounts its all just messed up.

My other daughter rang up a couple of weeks ago extended her half price bb, extended her FREE talk 24 AND half price phoneline and free tv. But when I rang they said it was impossible and she had been mistaken

We just have 10mb broadband for half price £17.50 and are still in our first 12 months with them

Everytime i'm offered a new deal by Virgin Media, they try to tie me into a 12 month contract, despite being a customer of theirs for over 7 years. This wouldn't be a problem if i wasn't planning to move house in the next 6 months.

Are all these deals subject to a new 12 month contract?

I have had 2 deals in Feb/March & no one mentioned to me new contract period.
I consider these just package changes.

Few people getting deals later (April onwards) have mentioned 12 month contract period.

Virgin probably regularly change deals they offer due to customer demand.
If they can get away with saying they'll do Retention deal if you agree to another 12 month contract, they will do.

Deals & conditions change regularly & depend on advisor you speak to.

why are you paying so much for these services.

the provider I use gives a package with 8mb broadband, line rental and weekend calls all for just £19.99 or £27.99 if the exchange isnt LLU (whatever that is).
chuck in your gas, electricity and mobile and you get all normal landline calls for free - how good is that. :T

I cant find them on these dodgy switching sites, probably because they wont pay them to switch you.

they dont tie you into a minimum contract either.

Did you know NTL charge you 6p connection charge PLUS the call charge so if the answering machine cuts in it has just cost you about 8p. Thats why my brother is swithing from them :mad:

I pay an extra tenner or so and get all my telly chucked in with NTL - it will be 8MEG from next month when they double the bandwidth. So not too much better if at all

It is definately a new thing they have brought in from last month - probably due to all the "cancellations" calls they had!

Some deals are still available without committing to 12 months - but are hard to find. Ive been told (twice now) that Im on the best deal they can do without another 12 month contract... :rotfl:

Yes I've read it aswell earlier this week. Can't remember where though...
