Virgin Media Retention thread

Hello. is this the new virgin media thread?
I need to call them to report a fault with my digital TV box, but at the same time i wanted to negotiate a new deal, as i think i am paying far too much, especially since the service has been reduced;
often the TV box stays on "powering up" for anything from 30 minutes to several hours so i can't watch it.
and also the loss of the Sky channels.
I have been a customer for over 3 years now, so of course well out of contractual obligations.
My current bill looks like this:
Telephone Line rental £11
Tw Bb M Tv X L Saving -£8.50
Voicemail £1.75
Tv Size X L £20.50
Movies4, Movies 5, Sports 1&2, Sports 2&3, Premplus £23.50
TOTAL £48.25 a month.
I also get 1Mb broadband for £18 a month, but for some reason this is billed separately.
So of course adding it all up comes to a whopping £66.25, which is far too much.
Has anyone got any advice on what i should say and also any other internet and TV phone deals i can quote?
And lastly, i don't really understand the bill;
What are
Tv Size X L
and
Tw Bb M Tv X L Saving -£8.50

Thanx for the advice I'll try it but I do think they are changing now they are virgin media I expected it anyway. All of the reps said the same thing though.
Who else is doing good deals to move to though, I would consider moving if it was cheaper anyway. I have sky downstairs but ended my subscription and I could swap to bt as my phone was bt before
blowfelt in post #1336 has just got an excellent £16.45/month deal.
Leave it 1-2 weeks, maybe change your tactics & find helpful Retention Advisor.
I'm sure you'll get a good deal.

I phoned virgin media to get a better deal today and they offered me TV,BB and Phone 24/7 for £16.45 a month.
TV basic
BB 2mb
Phone 24/7 unlimited calls and 30% off mobiles
All for £16.45 a month,i'll wait to see if i get this on my next bill.
What did you say to get this deal blowfelt?
I wonder if it depends on different areas, I'm the Nottingham areaThanx

I think you've just been unlucky.

I think you might be right peter although before they were ok to carry on with the deals when you rang up to extend them, they just told me when mine ran out that they were ending the deals and doing loyalty packages instead.
I don't know if I can wait a month to sort it out while wasting money I'm in credit at the moment maybe thats another reason they think I wont leaveThanx

I rang up to try and get those offers and they said they didnt exist I'm not happy about it
I'm on
xl tv
xl phone
m bb
for £34.95 a month
I rang to ask if I could swap to the same as above but reduce the tv to large they said they dont do that package with xl phone so cant have it only if i have talk evenings and weekends instead. according to the poster there they are paying £25 for that what i asked for L TV XL Phone & M BB
and the other poster on exactly the same as me now is paying £29.95 but I asked why are some people paying £29.95 when I'm paying £34.95 he said theres a mistake they must be on talk evenings weekends and they only have the offers hes told me and I wont get it cheaper
My only other option is to go to the free tv and pay £19.95 with xl phone and m bb
What else can I do to try and get them to drop it
I don't know how the caller that got the package for £16.50 did it but she was very lucky
As a long term customer I've just been quoted £34.95 for the same package (xl tv, xl phone, m bb), for life.
Have better deals like the ones in March dried up now the split with Sky has died in peoples memories? Or have I lost my negotiating skills?
The customer service guy was adamant that he was unable to vary the composition of bundles (we would prefer TV L). Is that the experience of others who've tried?
Any advice as to what I do next?0 -
yep me too I wanted just the tvl, but others were successfull even yesterday in getting deals better than ours despite what the the customer service staff said to me. I did wonder if it was area related, different teams giving different deals and discountsThanx

Hi Lady_K,on monday virgin media wouldn't give me any offers so i asked them to cancel my account and they were going to go head with cancellation in 30 Days but i rang them the following day and got the £16.45 a month deal.
Here's what i said to V/media,i told them that my GF (account is in my GF name) is out of work at the mo so is it possible you could do us a better deal if i add the phone service to our account instead of paying BT for the phone,we then could just pay 1 hole bill to to V/media...i will see what i can do he said
We are paying £23.49 for TV and BB at the mo and bc we get a discount of £8.99 already on this amount the monthly bill is £14.50,V/media said if you add the 24/7 phone to your other 2 services the total amount for the 3 services will be round about £25.49 less the £8.99 discount we are already getting which fetches the total monthly billl for all 3 services to £16.45,i know this works out at £16.50 but he told me £16.45..hey but what the heck were happy as punch now:jThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. Broadband: 4Mb (size L)
Phone: ..... Talk Unlimited (size XL)
How much should it cost? (lowest i can hope for - permanent deal as i'm fed up of ringing every three months)
Well I called cancellations today and this is what I was offered:
2MB BB
TalkUnlimited + Line
Talk Mobile (which I don't need)
Talk International (which I don't need)
for £19.50 (and also ties me in new 12 month contract )
Well I didn't take the offer - I just want what I'm currently on for about £16-£18. Am I being unreasonable?0 -
hi there
I dont know if this could help anyone, I phoned virgin today regarding my bill.
I currently have 3 boxes (1 of which is a tv drive) broadband, telephone, premier package with sky sports channels.
I phoned the first time and asked if they could do any better (currently paying about £70 pm! the unhelpful man on the phone said that he couldnt do any better.
I then phoned sky and was just given quite a lot of waffle, inbetween trying to convince me that paying more is a good option !!!! (eg installation of £50 and one off connection of £20) Yeah right!
So I phoned virgin again (disconnection department) and sort of called there bluff. I told them I wanted to disconect as I had got a better deal with sky..I told him £28 pm (as advertised in papers today)..he put me on hold and came back with a renewed price of £45 pm and if and when we get rid of sky sports we can take off another £16.50..bringing the total pm to about £29pm.. a MASSIVE improvement..

No, what it shows is if you call up and say 'give me a discount' they will probably not do so (why would they need to?). However if you phone up and say 'I want to cancel' (and actually sound like you mean it by quoting figures from other suppliers) they will do what they need to keep a customer.
