Virgin Media Retention thread

After reading this thread I decided to give Virgin a call. I was previously on basic TV, 2Meg Broadband and basic phone. This was costing me about £33 plus phone calls on top of that, which brought it up to about £50.
After phoning I was offered,
TV (XL)
Broadband 4Meg
Phone - Weekends and Evenings
All for £35.
Do you think if I'd pushed a bit more I'd have got unlimited phone calls?
I'm also thinking of adding SkyMovies and getting a V+ box. If I was to get these do you get a discount on them and do you think I would be able to get unlimited phone calls?
Thanks for all the help.
DJ.
HI
I was in a similar situation. Had the phone free TV etc
after the fall out with Sky I thought great time to get a deal from virgin.
Heres what I got
Tel line rental
Unlimited calls (uk landlines)
2Mb broadband
XL Tv in bedroom
XL tv with V+ HD box in livingroom
all for £49.95 per month
Addd to this the £10 per month sim only deal from Virgin mobile - this beats Sky hands down and the staff at Virgin are 10x nicer to deal with. Sky are very arrogant when we canceled our sky subscription.

I phoned Virgin a couple of weeks ago (retention number) and received the following deal without too much trouble.
2MB broadband
XL TV package
Telephone (free evening and weekend)
£35 for life but also got extra box free for 12months, tried this for life but they said that was the maximum discounts they could apply.
Over the past year I have had various deals by phoning telewest including free movies and sports for a few months.
Always been really pleased with service0 -

it really is amazing what deals you can get. I got all the above (apart from the SIM card) for £40 pm!0 -
"4 MEG broadband,
Weekend phone package
TV package with all the channels except sky sports/Movies
All in for £13.25 per month - PERMANANTLY!"
How on earth is that possible?
I think they forgot to tell you about the £25 internet on top?
Got through today in 10 mins, -
was paying £57
XL tv
L BB
basic phone.
Got it at £38. Which seems to be a price a lot of others have got. Really happy with this.
There must be some kind of structure they go off, some set retention packages? It seems a lot of people have been given some random (good) prices that no one else has?
They have about 30 retention packages and they only tell you the ones that suit you - unless you are very lucky and get the right person to help you! As I say she went through about 10 of them with me - some others which she just read out an offer code and didnt mention what it was simply saying "thats not cheap enough!".
£13.75 is an offer. It did include broadband. The phone/tv was £1.25! £12.50 for broadband (half price). I was as surprised as you are. If I remove sky sports/movies thats what I would pay, but I like having it.
Ive seen people on here paying £90+ per month for the same though!More than 1k per year for TV!! . Im going to call again to work on the HD box soon and shout at them for messing up my last billBeing bored is so boring Im bored of it... :rotfl:0 -
Ok, just had to share my experiences thus far. Dh phoned Virgin Media this morning and said, in a nutshell, we're paying £35 a month plus calls for broadband and phone, we'd like to move to Talk Talk unless you can do better, oh and what the !!!! is going on with our last bill, it looks like you've messed up big time there....
Sooo, quite a long call, and very polite. They have now offered us £20 a month broadband and phone, plus free calls (less than 60mins) 24/7, plus discount to mobile and international. They've removed a raft of charges from the last bill, and - is that alright for you sir? :rotfl: :rotfl:
Hmm, now what's that expression again... running scared? :rotfl: :T
Be polite, be assertive, and have a named alternative up your sleeveThanks MSE-ers, a few years ago I would just have fumed about this and coughed up.
:TProud to be dealing with my debts :T0 -
As a reply to those who asked me...
YES, I did take the offer for:
4 MEG broadband,
Weekend phone package
TV package with all the channels except sky sports/Movies
All in for £13.25 per month - PERMANANTLY!
I was then offered to tag on Sky Sports and Movies and make it £38 per month (I know its the normal add on price for those but I was paying 35 for what I had so technically paying ony £3 more for those new channels!). Checked SKY for the equivelent package and it cam to £64 per month for all this! Not including BT line rental...
...Something to keep in mind is the price they offered me - £1.25 rental for the phone + weekend calls (I dont really use it in the week) and £12 for 4 meg broadband.
So you're paying £38/month for everything with Sky Movies & Sky Sports.
£13.25 is the add-on price for 4Mb Broadband (£12) & Talk Weekend (£1.25).

3 mths ago called and gt my Broadband (L) chopped in half to £12.50 pm. Was told would be ongoing.
Bill came yesterday and price gone up again. Called them and after 10min queue (not bad for them!) got thru.
Lady looked up details and said "Oh thats cos it was done by someone in our Coventry office and they have now been made redundant!). Not quite sure how that made my bill go back up again?!
Anyway spoke to her re level of charges and she has chopped price of 4meg broadband permanently and I also cut my telly to the free package as really dont watch any of the other channels. Now down from £47pm to £27 ( I thought it should be £24 odd but never mind not gonna worry about £3)
So on Phone (M), Telly (M) and Broadband (L) for £27 so pretty happy.0 -
My contract is up on the 25th of april and i was looking to get a better deal. tbh i am only looking to keep the broadband.
At the mo i have
4mb bb 25
phone 11
tv was 6(now free Sky thing)
how much do you think i will able to knock off do you think i could get the xl bb for alot cheaper even if i dont get the phone and tv again?
My mate was paying alot about £70 a mth for his supreme package 2mb and phone. he called up and manged to get 2mb xltv(with sky sports and movies) and his phone for £36 a month for life.0 -
Lastest phone prices!?
Just received a letter today informing me about new phone charges from 1st May 2007.
XL phone down from £14 to £9.95 (Currently on website it is £25 not £14)
L phone down £5.50 to £3.95
Line rental still £11.
However you'd better take a phone package if you're planning using your home phone as the calls will rounded UP to the next minute.
I don't how I stand with my new deal and will wait for my first bill, but I don't think my discount will be that significant anymore. Just hope they put the B/B speed up soon.0 -
I rang a couple of weeks ago with a list of all the good deals people on here and elswhere had been posting i got a really nice lady who after a long time on the phone gave me a decent deal.she also knew about the deals people are posting and said in not so many words a lot are bullshxt they don't exist people are making them up to look good.I believe her.0
