Rang Telewest/Virgin today with an accounts query. Phoned 150. Then asked what they could do to reduce my costs.
Was paying: -
2mb Broadband £18
Line rental and weekend calls £11
'Basic' TV £5.50
Total £34.50
I was IMMEDIATELY offered
2 mb Broadband
Line rental and free weekend calls
'Essential' TV - more channels inc Eurosport - which pleased Mrs Q.
All for £23 for life.
Perhaps not as good as some of the results seen earlier, and I tried and failed to get calls unlimited, but still a good result for a first try.
dONT PHONE THE 150 NUMBER - THEY HAVE HARDLY ANY LEEWAY. cALL THE 0800 NUMBER A FEW PAGES BACK... Sorry bout caps...Being bored is so boring Im bored of it... :rotfl:0 -
I have been paying for about 2 years now £25 for 1 meg broadband, only just noticed on the site that they offer 2 meg for £17.99. I called them yesterday and explained and they offered me the difference of £7 for last 3 months. I told them this was no acceptable and they told me that a manager will call me as there were none on site.
What I want help with is trying to find out how far back I should be claiming ? also do you think I can claim compensation ?
Please let me know your thoughts, appreciate any help you can give me.
Thanks

Surely that is down to you not keeping up to date with market prices.

I don't think that you can expect any back payments!
also do you think I can claim compensation ?
No, if you were unhappy paying £25 for 1MB, you should have told them or switched to another provider!
Please let me know your thoughts, appreciate any help you can give me.
Thanks

If you read this thread, you will find that the going rates are:
2MB £10.00
4MB £12.50
10MB £17.50
So call retentions and reduce your payments. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
ok thanks, I did read most of thread but didnt have time to read all 61 pages.
Anyone else think I stand a chance for compensation ? I cannot see how NTL / Virgin can overcharge me and not pay back the difference.0 -

Do you just get Broadband or phone/TV as well ??
When did price change for your package ??
Overcharging will only apply if they charged higher price than standard cost.
Always worth a try to get a Credit and/or special deal on package/services you want.

Ps: I checked my documents.
1Mb Broadband standard cost was £17.99 from around June 2005 (definitely Jan 2006).
You have been overcharged & should get refund.0 -
ok thanks for your reply.
When I get home tonight I will post what my full charges are but I have the xl package, broadband and phone. I will give them a call and try claim back the £7 difference dating back to July 2005 which could come to around £147.00 which is not too bad.

I have spoke to Virgin and got a reduction to £52 for XL package, free weekend and evening calls, 2 meg BB, Sky sports package, sky movies package plus additional box.
I didnt think this was too bad ?
Also they claim the upgrade on BB started in May 2006 and offered me a £77.00 refund which we accepted.
Thanks Peter99 for your help, it was a lot more helpful than what I got from Espresso, think he must have got out of bed the wrong side !0 -
I have 4MB BB @ £12.50/mth + Talk Unlimited for £5.50/mth (i.e. half phone line rental + free calls anytime)
However, I am fed up of ringing them every few months to renew the deals - as they start charging full rate.
Is there anyway I can get them to do a give me the above for a longer period (say 12mths or even for life)?
This would save me alot of hassel in remembering when to call to renew the deals etc. etc.
Otherwise, I've thought of going to TalkTalk (I know when things go wrong its a nightmare to get it sorted) but at least I know what I'll be paying for the next 18 months.
Any suggestions?

Don't forget, some people have got some good deals, so you may be able to get some Free upgrades.
Talk Mobile -worth £1.50/month (discount on calls to mobiles)
Talk International -worth £1.50/month (discount on International calls)
Caller Display & other similiar services (if any use)
Also they now do a Free TV pack (like Freeview).
