47p is a decent offer. Perhaps I should have called instead I used the Flogas 'live chat' facility. You don't mention the standing charge, is that reasonable also?
16.44p/day which is £60pa, near enough. +5% VAT as always.
In my experience it is necessary to haggle. ... is that your best price? ... xx have offered this, will you match it? ... why are you charging me more if prices are going down? ... can I speak to your boss please? .. if you offer me that price fixed for 2 years you have a deal ...  etc etc. Always polite, but persistent.

For those used to the other utilities this old-style marketplace can be rather unsettling, not to mention time consuming .. but I have learned to enjoy the process. It can be very cost-effective, and it is only every 2 years after all.
Whatever terms you get make sure they are in writing .. an email will do but verbal agreements don't count. I ask for a contract to sign, read it carefully, and simply delete and initial any clause I don't think applies any more. So nothing in my contract about being able to increase the standing charge or "operational costs." 47p/l and £60pa it is, fixed for two years.

If folk think well I haven't the time or the inclination for all this faff, fair enough, I quite understand. But you will pay. I treat it as a hobby.  :-)

As for 2,200l pa, I wonder how accurate that is? Obviously it would be quite wrong to say 10,000l pa, and they would rightly take you up on it. but it only needs a cold snap or two to make it 2,500l or 3,000l, doesn't it? These are predictions, after all and will not be counted to the last drop...

My 2,200 litres pa LPG usage was based on my calculations and records from when I moved into my current property 6 years ago. Therefore, should be fairly accurate over that time span. Only differentials would be my daughter and partner stayed with us for about 5 months whilst renovating their property and I have slightly more in the tank (a few %) than I did when I moved in. I will definitely go down your route next time and be more proactive. Thanks for the tips.
  • Hi, renewal time fast approaching and I wondered what experience others have (particularly on metered estates) with 1 year fixed and second year variable contracts? Does the supplier always increase the second year price to the agreed cap?
  • General question - with petrol at 4yr low prices - why is lpg - I’m.understood as waste process product so high right now per litre? surely they should align

For that to happen you would need a supplier - and a contract - that will give a fair spot price. However most of us are on a year or two year fix, and the price for that is going to be well different to spot.

If what I said helped you, please "Thank" the relevant post. It cheers me up somewhat..
  • I had a similar experience last March.
I asked Calor for a quote as part of my price negotiations with my current supplier Flogas, and with who I eventually agreed 48p year one then variable.
Four weeks afterwards I had a call from someone who said "I have a delivery for you"
I asked him who he was and eventually and very reluctantly he told me he was from Calor.
I told him I did not have a contract with Calor, I was a Flogas customer and if he delivered without my authority I would serve him with a 7 day remove letter which under the sale of unwanted goods act, means if he failed to comply I would be entitled to keep the goods and not pay for them.
Needless to say all went very quiet, he has not called me again.
I have now locked my tank and check contents weekly.
The question remains however is where did get my telephone number?  I only spoke to Calor for a quote.
    Anyone any thoughts.

    Happy New Year fellow LPG-ers!

Completely forgot to post an update on my contract renewal last November.

I’m in West Yorkshire, usage c2,000 litres pa.

     Contract was ending 20th Dec 24 - Yr 1 53ppl / Yr 2 58ppl (tank rental per day 21.9p/£80pa)

     Date quotes obtained - 4th Nov 24

    • Flogas direct – wouldn’t quote as not within 30 days of end of contract
    • Calor – wouldn’t quote until nearer existing contract end date
    • Local independent (Northern Energy) – not taking on new customers with usage < 3k litres pa (ours is c2k)
    • LPG Save – Yr 1 50ppl / Yr 2 57ppl (tank rental per day 21.9p/£80pa)

Rightly or wrongly I signed up again with LPG Save (rather than wait until Flogas would quote) mainly because I needed a fill up at the time and their renewal quote was 8ppl less than my existing soon-to-end contract

  • I've moved into a new development in Northern Ireland consisting of 14 properties with a common lpg storage tank. Im being charged £3.0142 per unit. The bill says we have used 90 units in the last month, so along with a £0.1644/ day standing charge, we are getting billed nearly £300 / month. When I rang them and asked for clarification, I got fobbed off. Surely the unit charge isnt right ?

The standing charge of 16.44p / day is about average. As Jerry says what is the measure of your unit? Buying bulk LPG with your own tank you are charged per litre, with mains gas use is measured in cubic metres but converted to Kilowatt hours ( same as electricity).

Just going through the two-yearly contract process.

I’ve been quoted a deal using Extra Gas that’s several ppl below the typical LPG-Save / Flogas offer.

Anyone got experience of “LPG Compare” and Extra Gas, as I’ve not used either before.
