No sign of the £200 payment, I'm with British Gas. To add insult to injury they've been refunding my direct debit each month (as it's less than the £67/month electricity payment) but failed to do so in January :(

On the gas front, I forgot I was out of contract with Avanti in October, woops. Have just re-contracted with them - offered 6 months fixed at 44p then variable, 1 year at 47p then variable or 2 years at 54p. I took the 1 year at 47p as can squeeze 3 deliveries into the first year and 1 in the second year. Just hope the latest delivery arrives soon as was on 20% when I ordered, bit lower than I thought it would be when I checked it... 2 more weeks before the heating would have to go off!

Filled in my details on Flogas' website for them to give me a call - they never did
Excuse any mis-spelt replies, there's probably a cat sat on the keyboard
  • EDF have just told me they are not taking part in the £200 payment scheme . I await to see if the advisor knows what they are talking about.

Be nice if MSE could comment further on this.

Yeah I'm pretty sure they can't actually say that... as far as I understand all domestic electricity suppliers have to take part

    https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/1130933/domestic-alternative-fuel-payment-scheme-suppliers-guidance.pdf

2.3 The Direction is issued pursuant to Condition 59 of the Standard Conditions of electricity supply licence and applies to any domestic electricity supplier. The purpose of the Direction is to require that a domestic electricity supplier provides and delivers AFP to its eligible customers and submits to the reporting, audit and financial management requirements of the scheme.

  • I'm with EDF and no sign of the £200 yet. This months £67 rebate as been added to my account and refunded to my bank as usual. Can't understand why they just don't reduce my direct debit.
  • Just called Octopus Energy about the Alternative Fuel Payment- they are aware of the scheme, but no time frame for paying. All seems very messy with contradictory reports even from the same supplier. My fixed electric rate finished last month, the new rates are double. LPG contract was fixed for 2 years before the crisis, but runs out in October. LPG combi boiler coming to the end of its life- I'll need to decide then whether to stick with LPG or start looking at Air Source Heat Pump. A hybrid boiler would probably be best - but I understand they don't qualify for the government grant :-(

I had 2 letters today from Northern Gas Networks, one personally addressed to me at my address, very thoughtfully informing me that they will shortly be digging up our lane as part of their programme to replace all old pipes or whatever and that any disruption to my gas supply should be minimal...I swear they do this to wind me up.  Each time I ring them and ask if they know something I don't and have they secretly connected me up to the mains without telling me...sadly not, just a standard letter to all houses on the lane.  We are 1 of only 3 houses on our lane not to have mains gas, our house is 60 years old the other 2 are new builds on the adjoining field (the previous owner of our house refused an offer in the 1960s to get connected for free!!!).  Latest quote from NGN is £12k to bring the pipeline down to me.  Rant over, thanks for reading, helps to get it off my chest!
  • Just posted on the MSE site -

    1. Households with heating oil, LPG or biomass boilers to get an extra £200 to help with energy bills this winter

Households in England, Wales and Scotland that don't use mains gas and use alternative fuels for heating – such as heating oil, LPG or biomass boilers – will get an additional £200 to help with energy bills this winter, on top of the £400 you'll get from your electricity supplier.

The Government has now confirmed, for those with a direct relationship with an electricity supplier, the £200 will be paid automatically by that supplier from 6 February.

The scheme uses a combination of so-called 'Meter Point Administration Numbers' – which are used to identify individual electricity supply points – along with census data and data on the number of households without a gas meter point, to identify eligible households for automatic payment.

You'll get it according to how you pay your bill:

      • If you pay by direct debit. You'll get the £200 as a refund into the bank account you pay your electricity bill out of or as credit to your electricity account.

      • If you pay by standard credit (also known as 'on receipt of bills'), or you're a smart prepayment meter user. You'll have £200 added to your electricity account.

      • If you're a traditional prepayment meter customer. You'll receive a voucher either by text, email or post, which will be valid for three months. You'll need ID to redeem the voucher, and you can get replacement credit if the voucher is lost, by contacting your supplier. We've asked the Government where you can redeem the vouchers and we will update this guide when we know more.

If you're fully off grid and don't have an electricity supplier, you'll need to apply through a Gov.uk webpage that's due to launch for applications later in February. We'll update this guide when we have full details of that site and how to apply.

  • Spoke to British Gas about 3 weeks ago (via their online chat) and they didn’t know anything about the £200 for folks on lpg. Said someone would be in touch, I’ve heard nothing.

Thought I would try again tonight after watching Martin talk about it on his show. Spoke to three BG staff on the online chat (they kept passing me on) none of them knew what I was talking about and kept telling me the only government incentive was the £400 that every one was entitled to.

I don’t know how they will know that we are lpg customers unless I tell them but they are not interested in knowing. What to do?

The energy companies have a list of post codes of those premises that are not on mains gas. This in turn will form the basis of paying the £200 starting February 2023.

And that means if anyone in your postcode is on mains gas the process will not be automatic. In South Wales this will be fairly common.
