Bulk LPG - Cheapest suppliers / supply route?

Mister_G said:You will find that the rules regarding the siting of LPG tanks has changed over the years. My once legal tank in 1983 became "illegal" in the 90s. I managed to get Calor to resite it at the time, as I couldn't get anyone else but them to fill it. If Flogas only installed your tank 3 years ago (and were compliant with the regs), then you should find that anyone will be able to take it on. You issue over lorry access may be a problem if other suppliers do not have the smaller tanker.
Do you have any small independent suppliers near you? By the way, I pay 33ppl.0 -
Juleszoemay said:Avanti have offered 35ppl for 24 months plus £66 annually. They seemed quite strict on the site survey and i'm not sure if they'll accept the hedges near the tank which shield it from the pretty garden. Although I would have thought as Flogas installed it 3 years ago, they would have the same rules and nothing has changed? Does anyone have any idea? Also I need to measure the driveway past the house as its quite narrow, and Flogas send their smaller lorries up (always have) I dont know if Avanti have smaller ones.
All this said, I will call Flogas back in any case to see if I can get the price down further. You have two separate issues, one is future pricing and the other, even more important, is correcting whatever has been paid since the contract expired and refunding the excess. Make Flogas charge only what the contract said and refund the difference for gas bought between contract expiry and now. You may have to work out the amount yourself, to check. For the future shop around and don't sign anything meantime. Also don't sign up to budget account type arrangements at £x/month or agree to regular monitoring or automatic top-ups. Better to just tell them when you want it filled, and pay in full via direct debit. So far as the tank is concerned, LPG Save told me they like to see 1m clear around the tank so the filler man can walk right round the tank if need be. And no trees etc. overhanging Beyond that, a hedge should not affect matters as it is porous. All the major suppliers have smaller tankers for rural access, just remember to tell them when you order gas. The driver that comes, will tell you if a normal size tanker would fit.If Avanti should reject the tank, don't panic, Flogas have a legal responsibility to make it fully compliant. Be clear from Avanti how it fails and tell Flogas to fix it. Ask for an engineer visit to discuss, if need be.
If what I said helped you, please "Thank" the relevant post. It cheers me up somewhat..1 -

You first port of call is to look at the https://www.liquidgasuk.org/domestic/supplier-search which will provide details of who can supply. Then best to phone up and haggle with the suppliers from there, use this thread as a guide in terms of pricing and getting fixed pricing.

I’ve just had a letter to say I’m going to have to pay an additional 6.77 ppl, temporary surcharge, due to speculative trading. They say it will come down ASAP.
does anyone know where I can track the price of gas on the Average North Sea Index? I would like to keep track of the price from now on.0 -

The LPG index has to be subscribed to, and it is an expensive process. I believe suppliers like to have the figures hidden, so they do not have to justify their charges. If what I said helped you, please "Thank" the relevant post. It cheers me up somewhat..0 -

So far as I am aware there is NO such thing as the "Average North Sea Index" but there is an "Argus North Sea Index" - known as ANSI (trademarked). There is also Platt's NWE (North West Europe) .... Both require hefty subscriptions, but formerly someone on the forum managed to track Platt's NWE (on diverse sites! China, Netherlands, US uni library...) and also ANSI. When Platt's really did disappear completely behind a pay wall it had been shown that the two indices were tracked each other (more or less...good enough for our purposes!). Be warned though that at one stage we had a really helpful contributor who had actually traded LPG ...and described (on private messages) how the indices were manipulated (particularly at the end of the month....... Argus is the average of the last 5 days trading each month!)... so there's a good opening for speculators. Anyway - a bit about ANSI: https://www.argusmedia.com/en/methodology/key-prices/argus-north-sea-index-ansi#:
