Jerry W, offthehook and heather8 - thanks for you replies, much appreciated.
I've had a quote from LGP Save which is the cheapest by far and very tempting:
    • Flogas - 33p fixed in both Year 1 and Year 2, tank rental £60pa
Leaves me wondering...what's the catch? And why take the risk with a variable rate?
No catch so far! I took the LPG Save quote and it has worked well for me. The only thing I would do is to physically delete clauses 8.3 and 8.4 from the contract they send you to sign. Cross them through, and initial the deletions.
As for the variable rate, well, it could go down! You never know. Would you still be tied for two years, whatever happens?

If what I said helped you, please "Thank" the relevant post. It cheers me up somewhat..

Hmm, no settings wheel on any of my posts, just one at the top of the page to the right of the thread header and the only option when I click on it is 'Dismiss'

.. I looked into this. Apparently to prevent spam, newbies don't get an edit button until after they have made a certain number of posts. How many posts exactly seems to be a secret! So keep an eye out Lisa, and keep posting, and let us know when your little wheel appears...

Thanks JerryW, will do...and there's another one to add to the count 😂
I'll go back and delete all these when that elusive little wheel appears 👍

Quick update.  So I've decided to go with the LPG Save Flogas offer (below).  I have it in writing that it is a special term that supersedes clauses 8.3 and 8.4 (I will also delete and initial these clauses when I sign the contract).
    • Flogas - 33p fixed in both Year 1 and Year 2, tank rental £60pa
I had hoped to support the local independent supplier but having predictable costs for the next couple of years is important to me and this deal represents a saving of £300 over the 2 years compared to what I have paid Calor for the last 2 years.

Maybe I should have waited a couple of months until I need gas and shopped around again but I couldn't face the uncertainty and the risk that rates might then be higher (I struggle with the concept that rates might actually go down!).

Thanks for all the advice, I've learnt alot from this exercise, all useful stuff for next time.

Edit:  And the wheel appears as if by magic

Ah ... so, after 8 posts, it seems. We live & learn.
Good work Lisa! Good price, and you have a 2 year fix, which I think everyone should at least try to get.
