    Hi Lisa
.. I see you have done your research, and have had some good advice already. I don't have a lot to add .. the good news about having a full tank is that you need be in no great rush to make a move. Things to consider:
    - I assume you are happy that your tank is fully compliant in every respect; if not ask Calor for an engineer visit before leaving them.
    - ask "LPG Save," our friend Mr Flaxman, for a quote. It will use Flogas and may well undercut the quote you got direct.
    - tell him you want a 2 year fix, and you could ask Avanti for the same and see what happens .. nothing to lose.
    - the offer from Northern gas is also worth considering .. living down here in Kent as I do I have no knowledge of them, and the quotes from independents around my area rule them out of consideration, sadly. But I agree they are worth supporting if possible.
    - In the past 20 years I have used Calor, Avanti and Flogas as well as Woldlink/Flogas. For service level, there has been nothing to choose between them, frankly. None has ever come close to running me out of gas. I ordered a fill from Flogas two weeks ago and the gas came four days later. Not one of them has ever put me through to a call centre, it has been British humans all the way. But I MUCH prefer to manage my account online through their website. That way you get written confirmation of the order etc. Whoever you choose, set up a direct debit to settle in full after a fill, have no truck with monthly budget payments or automatic topups. It is not hard to keep an eye on tank levels, all these monitoring systems etc are there purely for the supplier's convenience.
Good luck with your decision and please, do keep us posted. This forum is really useful to us users and the more information it is fed, the better for all of us.
    Happy Xmas, all!

If what I said helped you, please "Thank" the relevant post. It cheers me up somewhat..
  • From my experience as a current Extra Gas user, the increases will be applied without fail, and beyond that if my experience last year is typical (I posted those gruesome details in May19).
I can’t really see the love for Extra Gas, having also had some further issues with them - initial fill in 2018 took over 5 weeks from order to delivery, during which time my gas was totally shut off by their testing agent; my most recent order on 25/11 was finally delivered today after 16 working days only after I had badgered them earlier this week (I had been informed at the time of my order that they had moved supplier from Flogas to Avanti so initial set up would mean delivery could take up to 14 working days).
On the plus side, they are generally fine when you contact them - unfortunately, they seem a bit disorganised so you constantly need to be on your toes.
As for ordering through their website, last time I tried (maybe 12 months ago) it wasn’t  working, and had never worked previously in my experience. Booking by phone is easy enough anyway - it’s the delivery that can be the problem....

What love is that? Nothing recent on here. They are an independent I suppose but as I said above, here in Kent they could not provide a competitive quote or even near

  • Actually as recent as today, but nevermind.

I think Robinsons are also part of Northern.  I’m with Robinson and have had excellent service.  You never know you might get a cheaper price.  I’m sure it’s Northern who bring my gas, but I pay Robinsons.  I think they are based in Harrogate.

Yes, they're linked in some way, they operate from the same building.

Jerry W, offthehook and heather8 - thanks for you replies, much appreciated.
I've had a quote from LPG Save which is the cheapest by far and very tempting:
    • Flogas - 33p fixed in both Year 1 and Year 2, tank rental £60pa
Leaves me wondering...what's the catch? And why take the risk with a variable rate?

Of course I meant LPG Save but I can't work out how to edit my last post
