advice on volunteering National Insurance - and being sometimes self employed
Hi All, Like many I'm wondering if I should be paying off missing NI contribution years to help my state pension. The estimate based on my NI record up to April 5th 2022 is £110.46. The forecast if I continue to contribute another 15 years before 5 April 2041 is the max £185.15. I will reach state pension age in Feb 2042…

18 digit National Insurance Reference Number
I have checked by NI contributions on line and want to pay for a year I missed in 2015-2016. It will allow me to stop work and year earlier and know my contributions are up to date. However when I try to pay I keep getting asked for my 18 digit National Insurance Reference Number which starts 60. I have checked all my…

Pension Forecast - "we are checking this year" and credits whilst working at school
Like many other people I went back and checked my pension forecast. Finally got in today and, months after last checking, it still says this on two post-2006 entries: It has said this for well over a year now, is it something I should all them about? Or will it update eventually? I will pay the voluntary contribution…

Missing NI credits Incapacity benefit & esa
I checked my NI record earlier today. (Along with a couple million others lol) I’ve got many missing years. (Voluntary payments would amount to about £15k!) These date from what I can work out from when I was moved from incapacity benefit to ESA, From when I was moved to esa no NI credits have been done. Does anyone have…

NI voluntary contributions deadline April 2025
I have requested a callback from the DWP to discuss my missing years. What happens if they call me whilst I am driving or in work when I am unable to take calls. Might they leave a message or ring again?

National Insurance Gaps
Hello, I was born in 1997 and currently have 5 years NI contributions in full but the rest have gaps, I’m now in full time employment so will now have full payments going forwards. Is it worth paying my 2013-2016 missed payments now? It works out around £2000 which is a lot of money, but will it effect my later if I don’t…

Should I have received notification of payment by now?
Payment made on morning of Feb 28th via a traditional bank transfer (their ecospend thing kept failing.) All the instructions were followed carefully. I provided my email address, which they claimed to ask for so that they could notify me when they've received my payment. Should I have received notification by now? I'm…

N.I. Contribution top up question.
I am hoping ‘molerat’ or one of the other knowledge contributors on the forum can clarify, offer guidance on my question please. I am considering paying voluntary N.I. contributions (post 2016 gaps) to achieve a full (almost) state pension. A couple of questions I have: 1. I was C.O.P.E. and wishing to confirm that paying…

State Pension > Unsure Whether To Top-Up 1 Year or Not...
My wife has received her state pension forecast and it states that she can top-up the 2011/12 year at a cost of £824.20. We're unsure whether it's worthwhile doing this. My wife came came to the UK (none EU citizen) in 2010. She started working / paying NI etc in 2011 and has worked since then. She had to have 10 years' NI…

Self employed NI gaps - Class 2 or Class 3? Have HMRC misled us or is it too late to pay class 2?
I'm very confused here. My partner has 9 years of gaps we want to make up from 2006-15 and its trying to charge us Class 3 rates at £824.20 per year. He was registered self employed the entire time. He's not a big earner. We don't have copies of his old self assessments, but we can see from HMRC's payment records that he…

Top up to 34 or 35 years costing £910 for additional 9p per week, £5.2 per year.
To topup from 34 to 35 years contribution would cost £910 and would only increase weekly payment by 9p per week. Is there any down side by going for the 34 years option instead of full 35 years when weekly payment increase is so low?

NI when still in school????
Hi, hopefully there’s a quick answer, I’ve searched but not
seen anything. I’ve looked at my NI record and it’s given me “Full year” for
when I was still at school (3 years - 94-95, 95-96 & 96-97) and not in work, is that
correct? I was born in June 78 so started 6th form in Sept
94 and started university in Sept 96. I…

I’m a 44yr old female, due to ill health, both chronic physical and mental health problems, and caring responsibilities for my seriously ill & disabled parents, both now dead. Additional Voluntary NI Contributions When Already Claiming SRP
Sorry if this has already been asked/answered - I have had a quick scan but can't see a similar question. I will be eligible for SRP from 4 June 2027 - my current estimate is £195.90 on contributions to date, £214.86 if I contribute up to April 2027. I am not currently working or contributing NI and am unlikely to so in…

Gifting assets?
Evening all. My in laws have over 45k in an ISA. Because of this, they aren't entitled to any benefits. If they gifted all of the ISA money to my partner, would there be any tax implications for us?
