worthwhile stocking fillers
I have developed my mums habit of buying loads of cheap, useless tat at christmas & I'd like to stop. I think it stems back to when we were kids and the cheap bits bulked out the decent stuff. But my house is coming down with stuff we don't need! I'd still like to do stocking for my boys (age 6 & 9) but not sure what to…

Home made chocolate slabs
My 13 year old who is, as usual, skint has made these over the weekend for her friends for Xmas. She is sooooo proud of them and I can see everyone getting one from her next year. Unless she cannot wait until then and we all get one for our birthday. Not that I'd be complaining. Mmmmmm, chocolate :) Official MSE Insert:…

Foam Letter Stickers for Making My Own Gift Tags
Has anyone seen any foam Christmassy coloured letter stickers on the high street? I made some lovely Gift Tags with the recipient's name a few years ago & as I'm giving my someone special a special gift I wanted to make the gift tag look lovely. I've tried ebay & searching online but there don't seem to be any particularly…

Combined gift idea children of different ages?
I can only afford to buy a single gift for each set of my nieces and nephews. There's 10 kids in total, split into 3 families so I need to get 3 gifts. Usually I buy a box of quality street/roses or biscuits but I'd really like to hear any other ideas. I've thought about board games but it's difficult with the age ranges…

Help finding a good artificial tree
Hello, every year I say I must not buy any more decorations for my tree as there's no more room but decided the simple solution is to get a bigger tree! Has anyone seen nice ones around? I can't get out to look at them in person so have to buy online or ask my parents. I'm looking for a bushy green 6 or 6.5foot tree but I…

Receiving money from abroad
I wasn't sure where to post this so I hope this is the right place. My parents live in the Caribbean (Grenada) and my mum would like to send me a small amount of money as a Christmas present (I'm guessing maybe £20-30). She has been unable to set up a PayPal account there so asked me how she could do it as her bank would…

I thought i would start a list of what we have bought for the blokes
I noticed that there are a few threads asking for ideas. So how about starting one for what we have bought for our partners/hubbies etc etc so that it might give others some ideas. My hubby is football mad. We had a limit of £50 as we are very skint this year. I have made everyone some presents, but i still had to but him…

Advent calendar filler suggestions....
I've just spotted this post https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/4248465 and quite fancy doing similar. Finding things to put in for my daughter wouldn't be too much of an issue but I don't think it would be too easy finding things to put in for her brother whose diet is restricted due to health issues (so no…

Ideas for presents for staff
Hi all. Hope you are all well and enjoying the sunshine where you are. I LOVE Christmas. Currently I manage a number of staff and I like to get them something small just to say thank you for their hard work. I work within a large public organisation so it is not as if I can give out bonuses or anything like that. Last year…

Husband. He has everything! Maybe he should get no gift?
Every year my husband reminds me of the latest electronic gift his is interested in around June. This year he is perfectly content on electronics and doesn't want anymore. So I asked him what he wanted... he said he has everything and not to worry about a Christmas gift... Maybe he just wants me to figure it out on my own.…

How to decorate baubles?
I've got some fillable baubles & I'd like to personalise them. I haven't the foggiest idea if I need stencils or some sort of scratch-on words,no idea what they are called. If you have a link to a video or an ebay page that can give me a lead I'd be most grateful:T I've got some paints. It's mainly names/words I'm thinking…

Stocking Up On Christmas Foods & Goodies Weekly?
Do you start buying an odd extra item for the Christmas cupboard as soon as the shops start selling them? Or does temptation get in the way and defeat the object of buying treats each week? :xmastree:

Is it worth buying a pre-lit/fibre optic Christmas tree?
It would be nice not to have to unravel all the fairy lights each year, especially as my 6ft tree seems to need at least 500 of them. Also, it would reduce the amount of plug sockets needed. I've seen some lovely pre-lit trees and fibre optic ones but I'm wondering if they are worth the money. I wouldn't mind so much if it…
