Advent calendar filler suggestions....

I've just spotted this post https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/4248465 and quite fancy doing similar.
Finding things to put in for my daughter wouldn't be too much of an issue but I don't think it would be too easy finding things to put in for her brother whose diet is restricted due to health issues (so no small sweets or chocolate).
So.....just before I give up on the idea, I thought I'd post just in case anyone has any suggestions.
The items would also have to be cheap since I'd have 2 lots to buy. I suspect it might be a non-starter but maybe you lot are much more inventive than I am.

Don't know if this will help but... I'm making an advent calendar based on tea for my OH. Twinings have loads of different flavours (enough for a new one every day) and you can buy pick and mix tea bags in little envelopes on their site. They are only 20p each so the whole thing has cost me less than a fiver.
Might work for some days if he likes tea as much as my OH!0 -
Mini spinning top (the type that will fit into a cracker) - try party bag type toys from Wilkos or similar. You might find some other things in a mixed bag as well.
One of those little puzzles where you have to get the balls into a hole - again try party bag stuff.
What about those little bath oil balls? I suppose it depends on whether he enjoys a bath or shower though.
Pens - maybe mini colouring pens? Wilkos have a set of 6 for 18p.
Fridge magnets.
Mini can of pop
Miniature toiletries
Leather thong type bracelet
Comb
Coins
Sachets of different types of drinking chocolate (you can get about five for £1 in Morrisons)
Twisting blocks:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Tobar-Twist-Lock-Blocks-12cm/dp/B0012GJW9G/ref=sr_1_4?s=kids&ie=UTF8&qid=1351021342&sr=1-4
Tangle toy, like this one, but I'm sure I've seen them in The Works for about a pound:

Fart putty
Lip balm
(Apologies if any of the toy ideas are not suitable. Without knowing the young man or his needs, it is difficult to suggest things, but some of these ideas are ones that my teenage son enjoys, and he has special needs. I hope I haven't offended you in any way OP).0 -

Oh Good Lord no, you haven't offended in the slightest.
I appreciate all the suggestions everyone has made. Obviously some wont be suitable but others will and the more suggestions that are made, the better chance of being able to get 24 things.Herman - MP for all!0 -
Aw that's a cute idea you could make the boxes as sour cream containers really easily and adjust size to fit gift.
Hmm what to put inside - does he like little figures, like the Lego or the match attack ones? Does he have a hobby, or favourite tv show? We have an adult male in our family with Down's syndrome and he's obsessed with dr who so anything with the doc on it is a winner! Colouring in items, stickers, flying foam aeroplane thingies, bouncy ball (can get flashing ones if he had sensory issues), those little scratch paper pads, mini play doh pots, socks?, rubber band bracelets, expanding flannel, bubbles (even the ones you can touch), glo sticks, mini deodorant?, marbles?
Sorry if I'm way off obviously hard to think without knowing him but hope this has helped a bit.

Does he like tactile things? Maybe me and my kids are just major fidgets... Like a knitted keyring, tyre pressure gauge pen, folding comb, small tin of something (sugar-free mints?), mini torch, etc.0

Thanks aliasojo - it can be so easy to offend without meaning to.
Poundland has two mini torches on keyrings - they last for ages. Mine is over a year old, well used, and still going.
Pack of cards (three for a pound from Poundland - can you tell I go in there a lot :rotfl:)
Magnets. You could try one of those extending stick things that has a magnet on the end. About a pound from larger Tescos.
Small screwdriver or screwdriver set if he likes unscrewing things(37p for a single one from Wilkos, or £1.99 for a set of 4 precision screwdrivers from Poundstretchers).
There is a stocking fillers thread somewhere on here. I'll try to find the link for you - looking through the sites might give you more ideas.0 -

He used to love Lego so a Lego figure is a good idea. No hobbies, he likes car shows and the series about Eddie Stobart trucks...I think they have a website, I'll check that out for ideas, maybe they have pens or something.quinechinoise wrote: »Does he like tactile things? Sugar free sweets/mints are ok so they can go on the list. He's not really into fidgeting or touching things iyswim.
Well you've all come up with more ideas than I had.I think this might be do-able now.
