Share dealing accounts
I have always used the halifax share dealing service. To a degree I haven't had too many problems. My question is do any of the alternative on-line broker services execute quicker or get better prices?

Alliance and Leicester ESaver 2
I have an Alliance and Leicester ESaver2 and I am looking to withdraw the funds and put them into a fixed rate account that I hold. Part of the terms stipulate that if I withdraw in any one month, then I will lose interest for that month with the exception of a 'particular' month. I should be able to find this month in my…

Shorting Hong Kong/Chinese shares? Anyone knows how?
Hi all, Basically I have good knowledge about the companies in Hong Kong and China, and I think that about 70% of them are SUPER EXTREMELY UTTER over priced. Take Alibaba as an example, what a stupid company. IPO with PE of 100? A company that doesn't actually generate income? A website that is flooded with fraudsters?…

My mum (over 60) has 20k which she wants to put away, no risk. After buyin me something decent :D are their any decent savings account which will deal with this lump sum? It's sitting in her current account at present earning rubbish interest. Actually, looking at Martin's articles, it's probably best to use her ISA cash…

Fixed Rate or Tesco Saver ?
I have been looking for a home for my lump sum for a while, preferably fixed-rate for 6 - 12 months (would fix for 12 months if I could find an account with lesser penalties for early withdrawal). However the rates are getting worse by the day, and my options are limited. I have a Tesco Instant Saver account, which I have…

FSCS? Won't hear a word against them!
After a near three month FSCS saga, I finally blew a geyser (an Icelandic one of course) and contacted the CEO's office late on Tuesday, for the 99th time. (I'd claimed on Nov 12th for an FRB closing on Nov 24th.) Stone me, I got an email back yesterday, telling me a cheque was being sent to me Special Delivery for today.…

Bullion Gold Predictions
What are your thoughts? currently trading at £20,700 sell and £20,740 buy (At time of writing) per kilo. My prediction is as more people keep investing we may see £21,000 per kilo and then curve down to the end of the year. I fear a big drop when the ecodomy stablises again. Therefore I guess for short term investments for…

Close Brothers 2yr bond 5% gross
I took out a 1 year bond at 7% a few weeks ago with Close Brothers who are registered with the FSA and fully covered up to £50k per person. They now have a 2 year bond on offer at 5% gross and you have until 13th Jan to get your application forms and cheques to them. A very good company indeed. You can download the forms…

Discretionary Trust realisation
My father died recently after making a discretionary trust over 3 years ago. He had around £100k invested, but since then with withdrawals this seems to be about £80k remaining. I am the sole beneficiary (son), and am trying to discover what I could realise from this trust immediately. I realise there are tax implications…

Hedging against inflation
Seems that you can hedge virtually everything these days, is there a way to hedge inflation? I can weather this economic downturn but if inflation takes off then I will be in deep trouble. Now I think that inflation will roar away in the fairly near future, so can I, and if so how, plan for this?

Lloyds Regular Saver Withdrawal Question
We took out the 2-year Lloyds Regular Saver in February 2007, so it is due to mature this coming February. However I am considering transferring a substantial part of it to the BM fixed rate bond now, rather than having to take what might be available in February. I can't remember the T & Cs regarding withdrawals and can't…

Need some help contacting RBS about my old savings book
Hi My dad found an old savings book of mine last summer. I followed the advice on here about reclaiming the money as there was stil £130 left in the account in 1992. However, I filled in the BBA online form last September and have not heard anything back. I tried contacting the BBA, but they said that I would have to…

Investors: The Bulls are back in Town!
Dow Jones up 3.51% tonight - expect a positive kick into UK shares tomorrow. :) Glad I didn't panic sell earlier, but here's the rub - even though we could see gains running for a few weeks or even months (the 200 day average suggests shares are oversold) we are still probably looking at a bear rally. In other words, a…

Are you going to remove your money from the Post Office/Bank of Ireland?
Just wanted to see what other people are thinking of doing. My mother-in-law has over £50,000 in the BOI, split into three separate accounts - one in her own name and two in her children's name. She put her money in the Post Office because of the guarantee that her savings were completely covered, but it seems that the…

We are looking to save around around 10,000 within 6-9 months, and then use this money for the mortgage deposit. * Which savings account(s) should we go for? * Is there any point in getting a decent interest rate as we will be using the money before the…

Re ICICI High saver
Can anyone give me their thoughts on ICICI, I have only ever used Nationwide since the 50s but I have got a large bond maturing next week and the best Nationwide can offer is 3.60% on a 2 year bond, but ICICI have a 1 year bond at 4.65% but I know nothing about this bank good or bad so I am not sure whether to stick or…
