If you took one out then check it for dates, my elderly friend just found out that he was scammed, someone intercepted the form and he lost the whole amount. He didn`t know until a few days ago and is devastated. Mine appeared in my bank account a few days ago

Thankfully my question does not concern me at present but will in the future and probably many forum users. Is the probate limit each financial organisastion uses the total held in that organisation or the total held in all financial organisations. Just wondering...what paid work do you do?
Dear all, after I downshifted from the lifetime career over 10 years ago now, I took on a range of part time jobs, one of which lasted 9 years, often several at a time. At one point I had 5 part time jobs, none of which added up to full time equivalent but I loved the variety and how my brain was kept in top gear! Now I'm…

What is the avearge cost of a care package?
My mother lives alone and has been assessed by the council as needing care three times each day (to ensure meds taken, food eaten and the heating is working). There are no personal services for washing, foot care, or housework. She isn't taken shopping or to a day-care centre either. Don't get me wrong, I am very relieved…

Due a partial refund Power of Attorney fees?
Hi everybody, I’ve been a long term browser of this site, finally plucked up courage to join and get involved. Please be gentle with me - first time poster! Just a heads up really, I can’t take any direct credit as the information I originally got from Martin’s amazingly useful site. The Government has decided to partially…

2018 It's My Time
Well l've decided to start this diary for me so that maybe in 12 months time l can look back at what l have or have not achieved. Let's hope it's the first and that when l look back on this post it's from the front seat of my camper some where warm. Small potted history - lost my DH at 50 but luckily he left me not having…

Power of Attorney
I am getting confusing and contradictory information about this. My mother has dementia and can't cope with her finances. I need to be able to step in and pay her bills, her chiropody fees, her online supermarket shopping and numerous other things. POA would be helpful at the bank. However, some people say that it's too…

50 ... assume long life and be frugal or open up?
Hi All As the title suggests I'm 50 in March..... time to think about things... I've got no mortgage, have a nice house, great wife and kids (kids are older and still live at home but that's another story!) Got my own IT business which I suspect I'll find increasing difficult to keep up with so may need to scale back soon…

Maximum savings before they can be used for care?
Unsure if this is the correct place to ask, please point me in the right direction or move the post if wrong. I am POA for my parents, and youngest of their four children. They are fortunate enough to own their own home and have worked hard to have some savings. My father has some health and dementia issues, and we are…

Change of career at 52
Has anyone changed career direction over 50? Ive just finished a BSc degree with the open university and work in admin but feel with a good 15yrs work left to do, I should be aiming for a career rather than a job and am thinking of training for HR. Its expensive however and I wonder whether employment wise I'm a bit over…

Deprevation of assets
I have come into some money that I do not need. I am keeping some for myself, but would like to give my 4 children some to enjoy. Is it ok to give them say £20,000 each to spend on what they want ? I am 64 in good health and have no intention of dying in the next 20 years.

Am I losing my marbles or is my sight failing...
Now, I don’t come onto this section very often, but I pop in from time to time to catch up on the ‘everyday man approaching retirement’ thread and the thread devoted to and supporting widows. Can’t remember its proper title. But, having caught up with the first, I can’t find the second one. Has it been moved? I think I…

Mistake on will date
My mother dated her will like this 16th January 20@18 the @ sign is where she scribbled over a nought she put in by mistake. Should she rectify the mistake by putting a line through the year and re entering 2018 then initialling it if so does she then also need to date the initaling? It's very obvious she has entered 2018…

where to find an emergency fund
Hi all - I am trying to pay off debts and get my credit cards down but I am really struggling to have a separate emergency fund as well. How do other people start to get their EF? I was wondering about using any sales I have for it rather than putting it on the visa but then I think that the interest I pay on visa…
