MMD: Should I claim money from cash-strapped council?
This week's MoneySaver who wants advice asks... I pay for a parking permit from my council. When I renewed this year, it got lost in the post and I was charged £20 to have it reissued. I think this is unfair and I'm considering fighting to get my cash back. But considering how little money many councils have, should I just…

Trust compensation
In 1985 I received a payment of £5k from a trust which had been administered by a bank trust company. In 2015 the company wrote to me advising that I had been "disadvantaged as a life tenant and a remainder man of the trust" and as such I was entitled to compensation. According to them the fees for acting as trustee from…

Council Tax
I think] I am in the wrong band. We have a 4 bedroom house with low ceilings, and our house is pretty similar to a number of houses in the area, all of which are one band below us. Back in 1999 or 2000 I bought a computer from PC World. The salesman asked if I wanted insurance to which I declined. He then increased the pressure but I stood firm. I didn't want the insurance. I eventually got to the till and, as I was waiting to pay, the salesman came over with the manager who persisted in trying to…

Paying council tax over 12 months
I want to pay my council tax over 12 months but my council says you can only do this if you pay by direct debit. I don't want to pay this way as OH is self employed so his earnings are not regular. I moved last year and my previous council allowed payments over 12 months without direct debit. Can the council insist on this?
