Green Flag or AA?
My AA renewal is due £145, contacted them and this is the best they can do, Green Flag is half that price. What are Green Flag like? I know they do not have their own fleet of mechanics like the AA and RAC do.

Sat nav use whilst driving
Hello. Could anyone please help. My wife had to adjust her tom tom angle in the car as the sun was shining on it and just after she did so she noticed a speed camera van. Could anyone tell me what could happen please from a legal point of view. Thank you

Is BlockShaft or any other kind of integrated mechanical anttitheft device available in the UK?
I rented a car in Italy, and it came with a device called "block shaft" - a kind of lock installed behind the steering wheel which blocks the steering wheel shaft. https://www.blockshaft.it/antifurto-auto-agevolato/ The mechanism is internal and invisible to the user - all you have to do is turn a key behind the steering…

Car lights have become far too bright and are damn dangerous.
For the first time for a few years I had to drive long distance at night, mainly on the motorway. My eyes are good for long distance so I don't wear glasses. One issue which stood out for me was the brightness of headlights, both head on and in the mirrors. When dazzled, what we should be concentrating on (other vehicles,…

How do I stop my car alarm from going off?
Hi folks, not a money saving question as such, but can anyone advise how I can stop my car alarm going off? It's a Volkswagen and I have one of those key fobs where you double-tap a button to unlock the doors. I suspect the battery has gone in the fob, as earlier it wouldn't work. I therefore used the key to gain entry but…

New car insurance company and post sale validation of car insurance?
Bought a one year old more powerful car. Changed insurance company as old one quoting high prices. Searched three comparison websites all gave similar prices. Went with middle of the range price rather than cheapest. Yesterday I get a phone call asking for marriage certificate, v5 and proof of employment. I have no…

Oil level slightly too high. Should I be concerned?
Hi. I'm new to driving, so please forgive my stupidity. I had a warning light on my Kia Sportage 2017 to say the oil was low. The lipstick was below the bottom line. I put it in 2 litres and run the engine for a few minutes. I retested and it was about 8-10mm above the maximum line. Is this a problem? Do I need to drain…

Ford Focus Mild Hybrid Deep Sleep = Flat Battery?
We have a 2020 Ford Focus with a1.0L ecoboost mild hybrid engine. This has the Ford Pass app that lets you do things like remote start etc. The car was on the drive for a week after we last used it and the app reported the car had gone into deep sleep. When we went to it, it would not open with touch or the fob. We got…

ULYS Tag (France) anyone used it?
Doing a week in France this Easter and was saw that they do a nice deal (Zero charge for unused months and only 2 euros for months used). Has anyone used them before and am I right in thinking that they are a standard toll company who will charge the standard toll tariff and reclaim via direct debit? Lastly has anyone had…

Car Dealership Refuses My Right to Request a Repair
On August 29th 2023 I purchased a Hyundai i10 from Evans Halshaw for £4750. I opted for the standard three month warranty and not any extended options. On December 29th 2023 however, I had to get towed home as the vehicle had developed a fault. The red oil light came on and there was a noise coming from the engine. The…

Squelching sound under footwell carpets, but not wet.
I have a Ford Fiesta 2017 plate and I noticed it smelling really damp the last few days, on closer investigation it appears the carpets on the passenger side are not wet or damp, but when I push them they squelch. This is the same for the front and rear. Anyone have any idea what it might be? I had the side panels replaced…

Kuga engines - which one?
Hi.I'm quite liking the Kuga as my next car - it ticks most of the required boxes. It would likely be a 2019-2021 model. I have always had diesel engines, and really like them for their torque, economy and reliability. I'm prepared to consider petrol alternatives, tho', provided the economy levels aren't too bad - and they…

Ice causing crash. Who is liable?
A friend of mind has just had a car crash due to black ice on an ungritted road. Driving conditions were poor this morning and she skidded down a hill on a B road ending up hitting a fence post and damaging the car but thankfully no people. There was no grit on the road and she was not driving fast. Has the council got a…

Looking for some advice please? Bit of a long one sorry.
I purchased a car online in November. I was told it was going in for a gearbox service before delivery. I was then informed it needed a new gearbox. The car was eventually delivered on 28th November at around 1am. When I inspected the car in the day I noticed the alloys were in a bad state. I contacted the garage and they…

Puncture repair
Advice needed. I had a screw in the centre of a fairly new (two month old) tyre. I must've travelled approximately 20 metres before I realised. When I took it to my usual backstreet tyre place they said the same thing as last time. Because it was driven flat it's damaged the inside wall (showed me rubber crumbs) so it'll…

2007 Van battery going flat after a week of no use. Is it normal or indicating new battery in order?
I have been caught several times by this now. Last week it happened and charged with mains. I thought it had been less than a week this time so would be ok but I was not keeping track of the days so probably nearly a week again. Is it to be expected for a 2007 van? I bought it second hand less than a year ago. No idea of…

Old car aerial - what are the chances?!
Hi.Did a repair on a friend's motorhome aerial last week, but it would be nice to get a replacement; although it 'works', I've no idea what length the original extended aerial should be, so how short the repair is! Also, the bottom section is corroding through, so will snap off at some point. If he lived closer, I could…
