Looking for some advice please.

I paid for a year’s motorcycle insurance with a company called Wicked quotes (WQ). Shortly after they called me, they asked for all the supporting documentation, and I sent it to them. There was a mistake on the NCB with a year less NCB than I had informed them I had (I was unaware of this; it had been sent to me after I’d got the quote and paid for the new insurance). They said because of this they wanted an extra £50 paid within 7 days and the updated NCB or they would cancel the insurance and charge me another £50. I explained it was not my mistake, and I would go back to the previous insurance company and get them to correct it however I couldn’t guarantee I could resolve it in 7 days. They said they would cancel the insurance and charge me £50 at 7 days if I did not fulfil their demands. I told them if they were going to act so unreasonable and aggressive they could cancel the insurance, and I would put the payment into dispute with my credit card company (CC). WQ cancelled the insurance 7 days after the phone conversation.

I bought new insurance the same day as the phone conversation with WQ with a different company as I couldn’t run the risk of WQ not honouring the insurance and put they payment into dispute with my CC. The CC got my money back after I explained the situation and showed them the updated NCB with the correct number of years which took me over 7 days to obtain, however I have now received a letter dated 3.06.25 from WQ demanding the full  year payment for just 12 days insurance and if I don’t pay it by 26.03.25 (?) they will pass it over to a debt collector with an additional fee of £50.

Does anyone know if there is anything else I can do to try to challenge WQ without it becoming an expensive gamble? Thanks

Well they can send it to a debt collector - but they can doing nothing unless they take you to court when you can defend and in all probability they will lose.

More concerning is if you have a credit agreement with them and that then appears on your credit record..

Presumably your money was returned by chargeback, which reclaims the money back  from the  WQ.

This has resulted in the policy no longer being cancelled , hence they are claiming payment  for  it.

They cancelled the policy in writing to me after 12 days, the payment was returned after this time. They are claiming full payment for the 12 days cover.

Chargeback is a crude tool and doesnt resolve the underlying issue. Sure some big companies just ignore them, some will just block you from being a customer and others will take you to court about it.

The correct approach was to register a complaint with them and challenge the fee that way rather than a chargeback, you could have gone to the Ombudsman had you not liked their response.

Not really as you no longer have any loss so nothing to complain about at this stage.

I'm not going to allow a debt collection agency to take me to court over a sum of money that won't even cover the cost of the court. I think it maybe a way forward to consider repaying the amount and then complain etc.

On a slightly different note does this leave OP having to declare a cancelled policy going forward?
