Mortgage Arrangement Fees
Mortgage Arrangement Fees are typically £999 which in no way represents the cost to the Bank/Building Society of setting up the mortgage. As such, there should be a method of reclaiming. IS THERE? Warren

Bank of Scotland Mortgage SVR no news but Halifax reduced by 0.5% straight away
Did I miss the announcement from Bank of Scotland (part of HBOS, not RBS) - Halifax were quick to announce their rates going down by 0.5% following the global rate cut. I phoned Bank of Scotland the same day and they did not have any news to give - I have not heard any further news since, maybe they are not planning much…

True Value OF YOUR PROPERTY!!!!
As a financial advisor having my hands nearly in everything, I am more and more fed up with customers over valuating their properties. Example, (Q) How much is your property worth? (A) I believe it is worth £200k as so-so estate agents valued it? Or next door is on the market at £200k but in a worse state than mine. Estate…

We owe £55,000 and our house is worth £180,000 and we currently have 14 years remaining. What I want to know and I'm struggling to work out is... how…

Mortgage fix now?
With the interest rates going down and having a tracker rate with no get out payment, is it worth me changing to a fixed rate mortgage asap, or should I give it another six months or so, to cash in on any more potential interest rate cuts. Is anyone giving good deals on fixed rate mortgages?

Choose a fixed rate at this time?
I have to renew my mortgage at the end of February, but I have only 90% LTV so my options are limited. I think that I have two options. Firstly, move onto my current lender's SVR (6.94%) and hope that a good fixed price comes along before house prices drop to the point where my LTV means that I can't get any other deal.…

Tricky decision

Fixed rate ending - what to do??
Hi all, First post, so go easy on me! Our fixed rate of 4.99% with HSBC is ending at the end of January and we're wondering what to do. All the tracker mortgages seem to have dried up and the fixed rates don't seem to be coming down. Are they expected to come down? And if so when? Is it worth sitting tight until mid-Jan or…

Advice - interest only mortgage - overpay or save?
Hi I'm on a great tracker interest-only mortgage at the moment, and wanted advice on the best thing to do now that the rates are down. I treat my i-only mortgage like a repayment one - overpaying when possible. My main question, is should I overpay more now (paying £900, mortgage around £460), or should I overpay less and…

Does mortgage overpayment count as savings for benefit purposes?
Currently overpay £300 a month and have about 30k 'overpayed' on our mortgage. Just a standard Discount tracker (yay!) but we overpay when we renew. On the statement it doesn't specify that we have overpayed so when I lose my job in a couple of weeks (Possibly) do I have to declare it??? We only have about 3k in the bank -…

new mortgage at high rate - should I change?
I am into the second month of a part repayment, part interest only mortgage at 6.39%. I have £92,997 on interest only and £38,000 on repayment. I am obviously not going to have paid much off the repayment element of the loan at the end of the 2 year fixed rate. I have checked out some new rates, mainly with the Abbey, who…
