Can 1 Hub serve 2 Hive Controllers in Same House?
Our house has 2 boilers, one serving the main house and another boiler serving the granny flat attached. The granny flat has a Hive thermostat installed already for its combi boiler and we're looking to get another one for the main house (conventional) boiler. Since we already have a hub for the current Hive, do we need…

Duvet recommendations - non natural filling
I'd read a similar thread on here but my question is slightly different I am looking for a new superking winter duvet - probably around 13 tog - but due to allergies I do not want/cannot have one with a natural filling such as wool or feathers, so I am looking for a recommendation for a synthetic filled one. I don't really…

Wood, tiled or carpet - what would you go for?
As the title, we currently have engineered oak in our living room (5 x 4m) but the room has a large (3 x 1.6m) window, it’s east facing and does not retain heat very well at all. The radiator is the largest I could find to fit under the window but it’s not the best. Would you stick with the wood, change to carpet, or tile…

Rat proof container for bird food? (not a big dustbin)
Hi Does anyone have a recommendation for a container to store bird food in, that will be rat proof please? We've been keeping it in the big plastic lidded containers that we bought it in, but a couple of these have been chewed through in the last couple of days. I've seen the big metal dustbins with lids, but ideally I'd…

Shared ownership maintenance costs
I am a shared owner with a large housing association. We had a notice saying that they were going to redecorate communal areas. The majority of flats are housing association/ council so will not be directly paying towards these works I assume. The letter said they had a figure of £70,000 for the work, and that my share…

Roof problems
We moved into our home about a year ago and the survey we had done said the roof was sound. We've now got leaks in the roof thanks to the lovely weather we're having and I've been trying to get someone to have a look at it for a couple of weeks. Finally I found a guy on yell.com with lots of good reviews to come and have a…

Treating small water stains....
I've got a couple of water stains on the white emulsioned plastered ceiling caused by a leak from a boiler in the loft. I have some Zinsser stain block but first want to clean away as much of the stains as possible prior to painting. Would a diluted vinegar mix or diluted bleach be the most effective or does anyone have…

Gas fire soot build up
The third tile has turned black and it burns when the heater is in ( yes I know it's dangerous so have kept it off now) I think the issue was the ignition would not come on without a match so I lifted the third tile to use the match but I must not have put it back properly hence why the tile has burned. Any recommendations…

Access to my property for building works next door
This is likely not in the right category, but I couldn't find a suitable one.... I was asked to comment on a planning application. I didn't object. The plans are about to get underway. Yesterday I had a meeting with the builder who first of all tried to convince me that my interpretation of the plans was wrong. When this…

Blocked pipe... at our wits end
So... we have an almost blocked drain in the kitchen, it all happened completely out of the blue and is the first time we ever had one. I tried to get rid of it by heating some water plus baking soda, fully dissolved, and then into the sink. Strangely, this made things a lot worse... pipe was now totally blocked. Hubby has…

Bedding - what depth fitted sheets?
Can anybody explain for me what depth fitted sheet we need for a particular depth of mattress? Our mattress is 23 cm deep and the most popular fitted sheet depths at Dunelm, for example, are 25cm, 28cm and 32 cm. So what depth do we need? I presume the sheet needs to be deeper than the mattress to fit properly, but I also…
