Ring cctc/etc, alerts
I have 4 of these gadgets. None of them alert me almost instantly when I walk past them. I've checked the setting, reset the CCTV/cams, rung Ring, etc but no difference. I'm not on their
plans/subscriptions. Someone I know who lives a few doors away has a Ring subscription, and his alerts are almost instantaneous. Am I being too paranoid thinking that you get a better connection/alert via subscription?
With the subscriptions you can view the history, and without it you can't, but there should be no difference in the alerts.
The funny thing is in the dark, if I go out into the garden, etc., the led lights come on the CCTV, but my phone still does not get the alerts, or very, very rarely does.
All setting look good EG, paramterers and alerts ie for humnas only

Speed of the alert is very dependent on your internet connection speeds as the CCTV/Doorbell doesnt ping your phone direct but sends the data up to the servers who process it and then send the alerts down to the phone etc.
I have Nest rather than Ring and one of the criticisms of them is that their alerts include a picture and so that adds a little bit extra time which will be compounded if the connection is slow. Our home internet comes in on the first floor at the back of the home whereas the camera is obviously at the ground at the front, our property is very deep so signal isnt great and Mesh has made it work but not well. Typically alerts are about 10 seconds after the incident, they can be a bit quicker if the connection is doing well but can be up to 40 seconds when the wifi is struggling.

Just to digress a little, when I read these ( quite frequent ) threads about video doorbells; cctv and alarms etc , I wonder whether I am in a minority in not having any of these, and not really feeling the need for them.
We live in a relatively nice area, and statistically the chance of being burgled in any one year seems to be about 3 in a 1000. Also racking my brains I can not remember any family member or friend who has ever been burgled, and I was previously from significantly less nice areas, as where family and some friends.
We do get the occasional dodgy character at the door, but I just say no thanks and just shut the door.
So am I just naive/lucky or is just that the fear of crime is much higher than the likelihood of it ever happening to you, and the suppliers of all these gadgets trade heavily on that ?

with apologies to the OP for continuing to digress:
I don’t have one either. Although I live in a less nice area, my point of view is that burglars will head to the nicer area to steal from people who have more valuable possessions than me. My mother has been burgled but as they got in around the back over a neighbours fence a video doorbell would’ve not made any difference.
People have them for other reasons though, such as deliveries when they’re not at home or in the case of a friend wanting to see who’s at the door before deciding whether to answer it or not!
Neighbour has one which did come in handy when I wanted details of the idiot driver who nearly knocked me over coming the wrong way down my one-way street.
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have not could of.0 -
I got the eufy floodlight cam installed and it's an amazing bit of kit. The stuff you see recorded (or live) when nobody is looking… like the 'urban' fox at 3am!
Addiction alert!
Initially I was just going for a PIR light, but opened a rabbit hole of searching for the best/most suitable kit on the market at the time.
They call it AI motion detection and tracking, it's not really AI but it distinguishes between cars, humans, and animals. 360 degree coverage. Zoom, dual camera, cloud storage. Manual alarm. Sound, 2 way mic/speaker. Out of view detection. Multiple pre-set positions. Dawn to dusk light, manual light. Activity zones. 0% - 100% light setting.
The features and options are so vast that it takes a fair while to find what works best, retain neighbour privacy as much as possible etc. But up there with the best £170 I ever spent.
Just being able to look at it live when you are not at home is value alone. And of course being alerted when the motion detection is triggered.
Plus, it does assist with security lol

I live in a relatively nice area, with over alert neighbours. I only succumbed recently. My trigger was reading reports that burglars are put off by recording doorbells. As most of my neighbours have them, that means I was the most vulnerable on the street, so I caved.
I have a cheap unbranded one off Amazon. Cost about £40. Has a memory card, so I haven’t bothered with the cloud subscription.

I have the Ring but I must admit, I never really considered its usefulness against burglars. I bought mine to deal with callers, the postman and deliveries. It's therefore more important for me to have immediate notifications.
Mine was a bit laggy but I installed a Wi-Fi mesh system to improve our Wi-Fi generally and it has made a huge difference to the speed of notification.
