Anti-coagulants and nosebleeds
Has anybody had any experience of this and have any advice? My sister has to take anti-coagulants (not warfarin but a newer drug beginning with "A..") and she suffers really severe nosebleeds every couple of weeks or so. They're so bad that she and her husband can't stop the bleeding and he has to take her to A&E to have…

Evening all. I'm 55 years old & have always visited the dentist for regular check ups & treatment. My NHS dentist went private 13 years ago. I have a mouth full of fillings, & 4 root canals. I think I've made several mistakes in my dental history: 1) In my 20s I would take (sugar free) squash to bed to sip in the night,…

Cheap ways to soften water - bath/shower
So I've discovered that my skin obviously does not react well to hard water, which is a bummer because I live in a part of the Country with very hard water! I don't want to fork out on getting a water softener added to my house, so I wondered if there are any tricks that I can use to soften the water say if I was to run a…

Permanent hair straightening
There seems to be various names for this - Brazilian, Japanese, keratine treatments. Anyone ever had permanent straightening? if so, is it really permanent where you can wash your hair with only shampoo and leave it to dry naturally and it still looks smooth and straight?

NHS dental bridge
Hi,can anyone tell me what materials NHS dental bridges are made of? And what is the maximum number of teeth you can have on a bridge? I'm trying to avoid any metal in my body and realise that if NHS did have anything suitable I would be paying private prices which I am more than happy to do. I have an appointment next…

Root Canal required?
I use a private dentist, he's very good, I need a crown on one tooth, I know that I've chipped off both sides and all that sits proud is a filling - remains of that is. The same checkup he took an xray of a single tooth which has a large filling and a couple of posts holding it in - it's been fine for 12+ years and I'm not…

MUA Pro-Base foundation
Has anyone tried MUA PRO / BASE Long Wear Matte Finish Foundation? Thoughts? It's just won a Pure silver award (ok, not for being a brilliant foundation but being a "vegan innovation"). But at £5 it's a fraction of my usual foundation, so worth a punt if I'm told that it does in fact keep me matte all day.

Free Eye Tests - Should You Trust Them
I've often wondered about the accuracy of optician's prescriptions. I'm now retired and have some spare time so when MSE offered free eye tests at Boots, SpecSavers and VisionExpress I decided to book all three and compare the results. It is worth mentioning that the Boots and SpecSavers tests were the same morning; the…

NHS Dental charges
So been having some problems with an abscess and contacted my dentist to see if they had any appointments, which they did a few days later. They took and X-Ray, determined it was an abscess and then give me my options, starting at the band 2 charge for an extraction, or root canal work (~£600) or specialist work, (about a…
