Enlighten whitening - how long to see progress?

Hi all,

I'm currently doing enlighten, last night (Friday) was my 3rd night of doing so.

I put them in at 9:30PM and stay awake until around 10:30, then I sleep. I then take them off the next day around 7 and today (Saturday) will take them off around 9AM so 11.5 hours.

I feel I haven't seen much progress, if any. I understand it's my 3rd night so I may be expecting too much, but I'm afraid I won't see any progress whatsoever? I've tried googling hours on end, to find someone who has posted day by day pictures to see the progress... but nothing. I will do this once I'm finished. I'm worried I'm over-expecting results based off of the guaranteed results, but maybe this isn't for everyone? I have been a coffee drinker for years, so my teeth aren't the best but I'm trying to improve this.

But can anyone please let me know how your journey went, or how long it took to see results? Thank you and sorry for the stupid questions.

It's certainly true that results will not be the same for everyone - there are a range. But your dentist should have assessed that and given you a reasonable expectation for what you can achieve.

3 days isn't very long though, as it is a 2-3 week process, and results occur gradually over that time.

Personally, I have my patients take a bit more time over it, and I do upper teeth on their own first, followed by lower teeth once the top ones have got to the right result. That way, the patient can see the top teeth changing colour compared to the bottom teeth - which is much easier to notice than when everything is changing at the same rate.

I would give it a bit longer, but if you're still concerned after a few more days, then I would get in touch with your dentist, and just get them to check. When you see the initial shade that was taken before you started, you may well see the difference now anyway.
    How to find a dentist.
    1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
    2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
    3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
    4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.

Thank you for your response, I read one journal from this forum and she saw results after 10 or so days. I think I'm expecting too much, my dentist thought I'd see quite a big improvement. I seem to be forgetting the final in-house whitening will be the most changing one. I'm hoping I achieve B1, because that's a great improvement over what I have now, and it's guaranteed (supposedly) so I hope that's at least what I get.

I'll wait until I move up to the 16% gel this Wednesday, then we'll see where I am in a weeks time.

Appreciate your response, it's settled me a little more!

  • Hi, just wondered if you had taken day by day pics and whether you were happy with the end results? Thanks!

In general it can take anything from a couple of weeks to a couple of months to get to an end result . As TS says we normally do the top teeth first, then the lowers so you can see the change , as it happens quite slowly and in a subtle way.

I was advised to use Enlighten and really noticed the results towards the end of the two weeks, then amazing results after the booster by the dentist at the end. That was about 12 years ago and still people comment on the brightness of my teeth. I had meningitis which necessitated high doses of antibiotics at a time when it had a detrimental effect on the colour of teeth, but Enlighten was wonderful and resolved the resultant discolouration completely.
