Am I being underpaid at my new job
Started a new job in October and my current wage is under £19,000 per annum. I am 23 years old, nearly 24, and living in Scotland and I thought the National Living Wage went up - not sure if it is illegal to be paid less than that. Just don't want to start chasing them and asking questions if that is not the case.

Can an employer deduct money from wages to compensate for a mistake? Post Office banking error.
Hi Everyone, I'm not sure if this is the best forum for this question - hopefully someone will point me in the right direction if it's not. A friend of mine recently started work in a village shop that incorporates a Post Office. A couple of days ago, during a busy period, they made a mistake with a customer using the Post…

Anyone got HR knowledge?
I’m due to go on maternity leave soon and I want to take all my holiday leave beforehand but work have said I can’t do that, as I haven’t accrued it all. Is this correct? My argument was that I will still be there in a year so that shouldn’t matter as I would still have accrued it on maternity leave.

Unemployment/sickness insurance
Does anyone have experience with unemployment insurance? If so, what is your opinion and if you ever had to use it. I'm just thinking that you never know how life might turn out. For example, you might get redundant or get sick and not be able to work. There are certain benefits one can claim but these might not cover…

What are these tax codes?
Hey there Just managed to get into the payroll system for my new job. I'm sure I've been in it before but got locked out and then left it for a bit because things are busy..... Anyhoo... My first 2 payslips say the tax code is BR. I'm thinking this might be some sort of emergency code while they are getting everything set…

Penalty Charges
My employer has decided that any penalty charge notices will be automatically paid by them and deducted from my wages, without allowing me to appeal them. While it does say in my contract (though is this a fair term and condition) that I am liable for paying these, surely I have a right to be able to appeal a PCN. Quite…

Work and pay
Hey all, this may be a bit long winded but I’ll try and keep it brief. Also, please note I’m paid in arrears so if it doesn’t make sense, I apologise. I’m just so angry. I work in education as a catering assistant. In May the company I worked for lost the contract and it went up for tender, with the new company taking over…

I believe I may be on the wrong tax code
Hi, Sorry in advance if I sound clueless, but I started a new job last month and got my first proper wage from them today. However, I was shocked to see my payslip as it was significantly lower than what I had thought it would be. I am on a salary of £18,585.57, living in Scotland and 23 years old. My wage was barely over…

Employment agency not paying for last week of work & withholding holiday pay
Hi, An agency I was working for emailed me out of the blue, saying they're "changing direction" and told to find another agency. I did this, but they didn't pay me for my final week, (10-16 October) even after they asked for my hours. They don't respond to emails or telephone calls. They also owe me holiday pay too. Is it…

Pay Rise and Cost of Living Raise
My managers have been talking about giving me more responsibilities and a pay rise. With the current position everyone is going through, this is welcome to me. We've talked numbers and things are being put in place. I've since heard amongst colleagues that there may be a large cost of living raise to our pay this year to…

Hi. I was made redundant on 7th October, with a month's notice (final day 7th November). My 2 years employment would have triggered on the 16th November, 9 days after my last day. Fast forwards to today, 3 weeks later, I'm hearing that it's likely I would be contacted to return but for a short amount of time, around 3…
