IAB Computerised Bookkeeping Level 3 Certificate

I have been job hunting for the last 6 months for a Finance Assistant role but getting nowhere fast. My role as an Accounts / Finance assistant was made redundant 2 years ago, and since then I've been working for myself full time running my ecommerce business. I am looking for remote / part time work, which is harder to come by in general but I feel that not working in the role for the last 2 years puts me in a further disadvantage. I got a IAB Level 2 Certificates in Computerised Book Keeping & Payroll, but that was in 2010, so I think it would put me in a better position possibly to do another course, not only to refresh my knowledge but also get a better qualification.
My question is, how easy is it to self-study Level 3, this entails Fixed Asset Register, Budgeting, Prepayments & Accruals and so on which I didn't do in my previous day to day job, am I foolish in considering not going to a college or the tutor route? The decision for doing it this way is purely based on saving money and also I work from home and can easily study longer hours at home rather than going a few hours a week to a college. I did it via Skillstrain last time, and feel like I wasted money doing it that way as all they really did was mark my lessons and send learning materials. I still did all the learning by myself.
Any advice please?

See if you can get hold of some of the study material (try asking on your local branch of Freecycle (freecycle.org) if anyone has stuff they've finished with, but be aware it could be out of date - make it clear you simply want to assess what's covered/presentation aspects) and have a look at what it entails/how the course is presented, and then decide if you would be comfortable self-studying.Googling on your question might have been both quicker and easier, if you're only after simple facts rather than opinions!0
