Should I give up my financial independence?
I already have an appointee that manages my disability benefits. Basically if I don't give up my 4 credit cards and £1000 overdraft which I've had for 5+ years with minimum debts (Apart from asking appointee for money to pay off credit cards 'sometimes' which I can afford) Social services are going to seek a Deputyship on…

NHS continuing care and Fnc question, do we pay the full care costs??
Afternoon all, I am posting this on behalf of my Mum who can't understand if she has to pay the full care costs of my Dad who's in a nursing care home. She has received a letter saying she's not eligible for CHC but 24hr nursing has been identified as being needed so FNC of £187.60/wk will be contributed. It is stressing…

Council Care invoices in arrears, Monthly Income, 4-Week Invoicing
I'm sickened with worry... my father has been resident in a nursing home for the last few years. He had no capital or assets when the council assessed his affairs, yet found that his pension was suitibly large enough for him to pay a Full Charge. While this in of itself isn't an issue - he has the money to pay for it - he,…

Age UK Handyperson
I tried to contact Age UK for help with small jobs around my house. I am 80 yrs old and my house is very draughty. I cannot kneel down anymore, and struggle with my hips, to do the repairs myself. I was hoping that I could get someone to come in to put some draught excluder around my doors but, when I asked about it, they…

DLA
my 29 year old daughter is still on DLA, have been waiting for years for call over to PIP and it still hasn't arrived. She is on low rate care and low mobility. I really think she should be entitled to a higher rate, at least for care, but never appealed when awarded as was so relieved. The problem with still being on low…

PIP claim timeframe
Hi, any advice would be welcomed. I made an initial claim for PIP last year, I’m on no other benefits and have no income except savings. I had cancer a few years back, and the treatment for that (rare one) was especially aggressive and has left me with life changing problems, including pain issues. I held off from claiming…

Buying Premium Bonds
I have an LPA registered with mum’s bank to say that I manage her finances on her behalf. This is mainly because mum is 95, can’t see very well and doesn’t understand financial matters, rather than because she is incapacitated. I’m trying to buy some Premium Bonds for her by setting up a new account in her name with her…

NOK for aunt - responsibilities
In the last three years or so I have been back in contact by phone with an aunt that I haven’t actually seen for decades. She lives about 200 miles away from me. She is estranged from her son and daughter and has no one else. Until last weekend she lived in a flat with carers going in four times a day as she has multiple…

I have another question regarding mental capacity.
I'm on ESA and PIP. I have savings over 4k in my personal accounts and another 7k in my appointee account (which 6k will be used paying a holiday off to Israel with me and my staff this Feb including staff hours) If the holiday doesn't go ahead and the 6k is returned to me. This leaves me with 11k in my personal saving…

ESA / PIP / Part time college course
I am looking into undertaking a part time college course that lasts 2 months. I am receiving ESA (WRAG) and PIP, for a number of mental and physical health problems. Can someone explain Personal Health Budgets to me
I am struggling to understand personal health budgets. For example if someone has had a stroke and they are left with a disability, presumably they would qualify for a personal health budget? Would they then get an allocated “pot” of money? If this is not extra money, then what would they then not be entitled to on the NHS?

Decent loud ringer and light alert for phone and doorbell?
My 96-year-old Mum has difficulty hearing her (landline) phone ringing, and also her doorbell. I was wondering if anyone could recommend a reasonably-priced solution which would provide a loud alert, as well as something like a flashing light whenever the phone or doorbell rings? She would need at least 2 units - one for…
