Hi, me and my partner are going out of our minds please someone help or point us in the right direction here goes, I'm his partner we are due to be married next year, I'm also his carer he has Ms Primary Progressive, he is deteriorating quickly, he had it 10 years now, I'm his full time carer, we are struggling at the minute even being in benefits his mum has recently passed away and the family are in the process of selling the house, 3 of them will receive about £50,000, each it will not affect the siblings but my partner is struggling to accept either way he has lost his inheritance as he cannot purchase what he wanted as an investment, we are on ESA support group I'm on his claim, UC too, we was told to claim it as it was the only way we could get housing benefit and council tax benefit, but it's not a benefit as such as it pays my Bill's, only just then we have to find extra to keep the house warm due to his Ms, anyonebeen in our situation and found the best way for him to keep both

Only means tested benefits are effected.Deprivation of capital will be looked at if you spend or give away the money frivolously.1

He hasn’t lost his inheritance. It will be there to support him, if his benefits do change, but he can also use some of the money to make life more comfortable.
Yes he needs to be careful about not blowing it, but using some to replace furniture, or go on holiday (for example) should be ok.What do you mean, he can’t buy what he wants as an investment. Is he below state pension age?All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.2 -
If you're claiming UC and ESA then the ESA will be Contributions based/New style ESA and this isn't affected by any savings/capital so this will continue (£117.60 per week)UC is means tested so if you have savings/capital of more than £16,000 on the last day of your assessment period then all of your UC will end. You will need to make sure you report the changes once the money goes into your bank account.Council Tax reduction is also means tested and once the money goes into your bank you will need to report the changes and your CTR will end.Unfortunately, you can't have all that money and expect your means tested benefits to continue. If either of you are claiming PIP or DLA then this will continue. If you're claiming Carers allowance for looking after your partner then this will also continue.2
