Woke up to a letter from Virgin saying that if I set up a direct debit online to pay the minimum off my Virgin card they'll knock £10 off my balance. :D I set that up & then switched over to my Barclays online banking & found out that Barclaycard have deposited the full amount of the charges I'm reclaiming against them. :D…

tips for spending less/nothing on books
not sure if this post is in the right place so feel free to move! It seems to me from the number of helpful threads about selling books, that there are a few people on here who might, like me, be book addicts, with more books than we need to keep! I can't quite bear to sell my books yet (particularly if i will be selling…

Need some advice on this one gang! Its coming up to 2 years since I legally seperated from my Ex. The only assets outstanding to sort out were a loan, joint current account and TV i rented under my name from Box Clever, which EH kept hold of (I left the FMH and moved away so he kept most of the possessions). Subsequently,…

Dear all, I am trying to work out what to do with my finances and am weighing up the options of: a) Getting a low rate loan (5.9%) for say 5 years so that I can start at zero and work upwards; or b) Continuing to shift my money between credit cards I find it difficult to juggle my finances when I am working in negative…

I keep hearing conflicting things about this, so wanted to ask what you think? For example if you moved into a house that has had previously had a tenant who was bankrupt before can it affect your record? I ask because we are having problems with credit rejections and there doesnt appear to be anything wrong on either…

New to the board...shakily posting on behalf of broken mum
Hi everyone! I feel like a bit of an intruder but I'm hoping that there might be some sort of support out there, even though it's not me that's in the mess (though it feels like it is!). My mum has always been 'worried' about money, and struggled with cards and loans. I helped her remortgage about a year ago to raise £20k…

Advice and support please
Today is our lightbulb moment! We are finally facing up to the huge debts we have and trying to sort them out. We have been burying our heads in the sand hoping they will go away for too long. This is really scary and embarrassing. We have filled in the MSE budget and also the 'snowball' calculator. I think we'll be…

Very unmoneysaving but very kind act
Hi Everyone, I just thought I'd write and tell you that we spent £40 at the weekend on presents for the homeless. I just figured, although in debt, we have a lot more than most! We got some strange looks going round all the discount shops getting loads of toothpaste, shampoo and stuff. Between us we managed to get 8 sets…
