Probably a really easy question for most of you but I’m not sure….
Hi everyone. I’m trying to find the answer to something and I was hoping one of you might be able to clarify for me. I’ve found similar questions in the forum but want to make sure I understand properly as I had a bit of a meltdown this week and am now considering an IVA… I have defaults and a CCJ first recorded nearly 3…

What small DFW things will you do this w/c 03/02
When we start on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards, and canceling Sky and the gym. But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in…

Son's debts probably coming to my door
My son used my address as a c/o a few years ago during a messy relationship break up after he lost his home. His ex partner was alcoholically chaotic and made several false allegations against him. He ended up living in his van and working around the south of the UK, but needed to re-tax the vehicle - hence c/o my address.…

Just for anyone in the process of setting up a new DMP who might need to close bank account with creditor and open a new basic account, follow the advice from the oracles on here and do it manually - DO NOT USE SWITCHING SERVICE! I wish I’d read this advice before I pressed submit! I’ve had an absolute nightmare for the…

no payments taken
Hi . I posted about this last month but need some further advice - I have a credit account with a Peer to peer lender called Elfin Market with an outstanding balance of about £1500. 4 months ago they just stopped taking payments. My account was fully up to date at that point. I have had no correspondence or communication…

How do I know account has defaulted?
Hi everyone, new here today on my road to being debt free. My first burning question is - when do I know an account has defaulted, and it isn’t just a debt collector working on behalf of the company? Who will contact me when the account has defaulted - the company, or a debt collector? How do I know that debt collection…

Debt management plan
Hi all. I’m after some advice. Please be gentle as I know I’ve got myself into this mess. I’m at a point where I need to tackle my debt as I’m running out of options. I’ve completed a budget with step change but the proposed monthly payment is only £200 less than I’m paying at the moment. I’m trying to get to a point where…

Sainsburys Just Dont Default
Hi. Apologies if this is the wrong section. I have been running a successful DMP for nearly 2 years now. All creditors defaulted which I want. But Sainsburys just don't play ball. I phoned them up and requested a default. Which they agreed to. I got a default letter in December. Its now February and still no default. Even…

Best Approach? CCA now or wait for LBA
Hi all, I've read plenty of threads on here about CCA letters and what an LBA entails. However I can't quite work out what's best. Either I send a CCA and hope for the best, or I wait for an LBA and put my request in there assuming their process will happen before the debt it statute-barred. By way of background info, it's…

PRE-DMP Setup Questions
Hi , Ok I've made this step and feel so much better already. I am a prolific CC spender, have debt consolidated a number of times, I take loans to pay of balances and then spend on CCs again. £80K+ . I finally feel this is the answer - no CCs available will enforce proper budgeting and no splurging. I've started the…

Notice of default after two missed payments
I’ve been taking really great advice from this thread and stopped making payments at the end of November to save some money before setting up DMP. I was surprised to get an email yesterday from Amex which attached a Notice of default telling me to pay the outstanding amount (2 missed payments) before 23 January or further…

SOA
Hi, not feeling to great about posting this but time to get it all sorted. My husband pays some bills whilst I pay others. I do pay more because I earn more. I have set up a new bank account and am starting to manually move direct debits in time for the next pay day. I don't have a choice but to do a DMP, as my credit…

In distress - mortgage shortfall
Thank you in advance for reading. I’ve been most distressed by this. I’ve received a letter from Hessonite stating I owe just under £30k for a mortgage shortfall. My ex husband decided to go bankrupt in 2006 and all assets (including the house with Northern Rock mortgage) was taken into the insolvency estate. We were made…

Ashamed of debt
Hi Everyone, I have been following posts here for a while, gathering information and starting to fill out details on the StepChange website. It’s incredibly difficult to admit, but I’m ashamed of the debt I’ve accumulated, which has gradually spiralled out of control. This month, in an attempt to speed up debt repayment,…

Advice on credit card repayments
Hi so I am brand new to this. I have a credit card just short of 3k that I’m paying back minimum payments each month so it’s not going down. On 20th feb I will be paying 27% interest rate. I was wondering if it’s possible to get another card to pay it off; and start again so I’m not paying interest? What can I do

Best way to clear debt?
No judgement please. For the first time in our lives we are renting but have a lot of debt most of it credit cards, we’re talking 60-70k. We started our own business 3 years ago and it’s still taking time, although our projections are solid. How can we consolidate our debt without having an asset to secure against?
