Hi, I'm new to this forum and I don't know if this has been discussed before but I had a PayPal credit account that I defaulted on back in January, I think, but I haven't received anything since to say that my debt has been sold to anyone, admittedly I generally don't answer phone calls from numbers I don't know so I may have been tried to be contacted but I don't know. Should I be worried at all or should I randomly expect a letter later down the line where my debt has been sold. I am grateful for any help as the lack of communication is starting to worry me.

Lenders should normally send you a warning letter giving you time to make up the missed payments, then to confirm it was defaulted. They don't ring you normally. Have you checked in the account to see what notices you give?

They are unlikely to sell the debt for a couple of years while they give you the chance to pay your debts, after that yes they could sell it on.

What, ultimately, are you asking here? If you know you stopped paying and have missed 3-4 contractual payments then yes you are likely to be defaulted along with having missed payments on your account. Check your credit file as well and see what is recorded there.

Are you planning on paying this back? Have you asked for a payment plan?

Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

  • I was mostly just asking if there is possibly something that I have missed as I hadn't heard anything and paypal isn't showing my account on the app anymore. I haven't contacted PayPal yet as I keep forgetting to but I'll do that now to try and get a payment plan sorted. I use Clear Score to check my credit score and things like that and all it has reported is that I have a defaulted account nothing extra to that. Thank you for the reassurance that I haven't missed anything. And sorry if what i was asking seemed really stupid and obvious.
  • Because of some personal things I hadn't noticed the account was defaulted until recently so I was mostly just worried that I was in some very serious issues rather than it being something that could be solved a bit easier
