1st positive thread on here on how you CAN get your 1st home
This message board has been here a while now and many of the messages on here are so negative, which I find troubling in a country with so many opportunties. In all this time and all the messages and opinions there has not been one thread on how you CAN get on the property ladder. I know there is a cynical bunch out there…

Home ownership among young people rises

Why has some things quadrupled in price, yet other things are cheaper to buy?
I find it odd how house prices, even fuel to run the car has quadrupled in just 30 years, yet some things like televisions you can buy at a fraction of the cost they were in the 70's. I started driving in 1986, when petrol was just £1.07 for a gallon, now we all know there are 4 litres in a gallon, which means at on todays…

London now in a permanently high house price environment?
About a decade ago we had the financial crisis. At the time the Bank of England printed money out of thin air (QE) and pushed central interest rates down to 300 year lows, but assured us all this was a temporary measure, and that they would go back up again. They have, as we all know, failed to do this. Also, for the first…

Never thought I would say it: Blair tells it like it is. Labour needs to go back to the 90s
https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2020/feb/20/tony-blair-only-a-complete-renewal-of-labour-will-do Corbynism is in tatters. The worst defeat imaginable. Labour locked out of power for a decade or more, and what are the leadership hopefuls discussing? The same issues that the electorate hated before Christmas, but with…

Huge infrastructure projects coming, but zero housing, you had better buy now if that's your dream
HS2, Northern spending spree(at last), local bus and reopened train routes, even talk of a bridge Scotland to NI. Boris is going for some real vanity projects that will be remembered in the future, who knows what he will come up with next, but I am mostly loving it. Nobody remembers grubby little affordable housing…

Just when you think the good days are gone
This is only anecdotal, but I went with a property investor friend to a university town, well it was actually a town very close to a university town which for some reason seems to have been totally overlooked until now, maybe because of the now improved transport links. Property was amazing and sitting down in a country…

Halifax ... 1.7% rise MOM
https://static.halifax.co.uk/assets/pdf/mortgages/pdf/December-2019-House-Price-Index.pdf I am really sorry, yet again, to the more pro crash and destruction fans, but these are the real figures and it's not me or nobody else being "uber bullish" I seriously thought we would now be flat lining for a while or a little…

UK Inflation Rate
The Consumer Prices Index (CPI) rose by 1.6% in the year to December 2016, compared with a 1.2% rise in the year to November. The rate in December was the highest since July 2014, when it was also 1.6%. Price movements for the majority of the broad groups of goods and services acted to increase the rate between November…

Pre paid meter seems to high
I’m not sure what is going on , I use a pre paid meter which I switched to as my monthly bills I couldn’t manage, but it seems I’m spending £2,65 a day on electric and gas each in a 2 bedroom house. We have tried only having curtains things on but that doesn’t make a difference

Food for thought.
She is renting in London to be fair but how does someone, supposedly intelligent end up in this situation. There is mention of two children but not their father so that might explain some of her decisions. From today’s Daily Mail: Generation Rent is what you call young people locked out of the property market because of…

UK Interest Rate
Another Bank of England policymaker has floated the idea of cutting the central bank's main interest rate. Gertjan Vlieghe told the Financial Times he will consider voting for a rate cut depending on how the economy has performed since the December election. The rate is used by banks and other lenders who set borrowing…

Council Tax
I have just moved to a brand new estate and my property is in Band G. The next house style which is larger and more expensive is in Band F. I wrote to the Valuers office and they have written back to say they are looking into the rest of the properties on the estate but ours will stay the same. I've looked into historical…

US vs Iran, effects on economy
Drivers are already feeling the effects of climbing oil prices, with growing tensions between the US and Iran set to push them higher, according to the RAC. "Prices at the pump have already increased by about a penny a litre," said Simon Williams, who tracks fuel prices for the company. I was surprised that the UK stock…

A Question for Tory Supporters
Is there a point where you would actually become so ashamed of your party that you would stop voting for them? I mean, what would it would actually take? 21 MPs booted out for not wanting to follow the wild delusions of a cabal of Bullingdon 1930s comedy villains. One of those ejected, one of the most respected statesmen…

The Nice People Thread, No.16: A Universe of Niceness.
Well, I am a relative newcomer to this volume of threads, which is open to all Nice People! That's it; the only criterion is that you be a Nice Person! (There's a stand just outside the door where you may leave any arguments or grouches while you are on here! ) * You might be a long-standing Nice Person, or a…

Brexit the economy and house prices part 7: Brexit Harder
I have very little interest in this topic but by starting the new Brexit thread, I can make this picture of some cute kittens appear on the top of every page. So, Brexit. What's all that about??? *edit* Thanks VoucherMan for saving the kittens!
