DIY probate and life interest trust help
Hello, I am in the process of applying for probate online. My father left his 50% share of the house (his share being worth approximately 290k) and around 75k in savings to be held in a life interest trust with my stepmother as beneficiary and me as remainderman. He also gifted me various sums of money over the last 7…

Lloyds Bank/Equiniti
Hi All, My Mum died back in 2021 in Scotland. Administration of the estate was done via a solicitor, and all wrapped up just over a year(!) later. However I've just received a letter from Lloyds Banking Group saying that a "payment" in has been made within the last 12 months. It's only for £4.63, but I'd rather get this…

My Mum died three weeks ago & the death was registered today (Coroner involvement). I'm administering her estate solo. No will. Can the a person who has completed IVA be an Executor of a Will?
My sister, who has previously (with her husband, as both had to complete the IVA at the same time) gone through and completed an IVA process is also the Executor of my Mum's will. Probate: 99%/1% property
A property is split between a son and mother with a 99% / 1% split in the sons favour. The mother lives in the property and has rights to live there until she passes on. He is now deceased, with his will stipulating that his 99% is left to his daughter. Ideally it would be good to resolve this before the mother passes on,…

Delaying inheritance for will beneficiaries
My will is currently split equally between my five nephews and nieces (I've no partner or dependents). While my nephews (who are in their 30s) are all pretty sensible with money my two nieces (and one in particular) are less so. If I suddenly died now (I’m 60 so hopefully not soon but obviously possible) they would each…

Excessive time for Probate
My MIL made a firm of solicitors joint executors in her will to save us stress. Sadly this did not work out. These solicitors have been very poor and we are still in probate 4 years in. As they are charging a fixed fee we have continued with them albeit having to do quite a lot ourselves. A lot of money is coming out of…

I have now phoned the service and been told that my application has been passed to a specialist team. No indication on why or how long I will have to wait. It is now 13 weeks!…

Gifting when under IHT
I've been reading to lots about the IHT and the gifting rules and listened to Martin's podcast and TV show about it. Credit Reference Agencies - Why so difficult?
Hi Folks, I recently finished handling my late mothers estate. I have one open task around notifying credit reference agencies Is it just me, or is this unduely vauge in what to do? Error on IHT400 Form box 79
Has anyone else noticed that for box 79 on the IHT400 PDF form (version : HMRC 12/25) the automation does not calculate the addition of box 77 and 78 correctly - and a manual value cannot be entered. It's using a string concatenation (joining both the value fields as a long string) rather than doing a numeric addition.

Money Moral Dilemma: What should I do with the inherited money that I feel guilty about spending?
This week's MoneySaver who wants advice asks.. I've recently inherited some money. It's enough to buy a new car, something I do need. But I feel too guilty to spend it - I would much rather have the person I inherited it from still here, and it breaks my heart even thinking about spending it, as doing so would almost feel…
