Having recently navigated the complexities of the executor process, I know first-hand the weight of that responsibility.

When I was first faced with an estate to administer, I quickly realised that research alone wasn't enough. As an executor, you are legally required to count every penny and, crucially, adhere to the statutory order of priority. Paying the wrong person at the wrong time could have serious personal consequences and it really made me nervous.

At the start, the path forward was unclear. I didn't know if a solicitor was required or how the estate would fund professional fees. As I was on this steep learning curve I needed to find the "lay of the land," so I built a dirty spreadsheet to track the estate’s health and map out legal priorities etc. That spreadsheet evolved as I understood more and it provided me with the data-driven clarity needed to make confident decisions and find peace of mind during a challenging learning process.

I've since refined my scrappy spreadsheet and thought I'd share via OneDrive in-case its useful for someone else too.
