Stupidly deleted an unknown folder
I had forgotten that I'd selected "show hidden files and folders" a week ago, and left it selected. Having forgotten that I'd done that, when I was going through my folders, I noticed one that I hadn't set up and didn't recognise, and when I opened it there was nothing in it, so I deleted it. A few days later I remembered…

Need advice on buying a laptop - under £800
Looking for a good laptop which will last me for some years. I will be gaming as well so would be very preferable if it has a great graphics card. I will be playing the latest games, maybe not the most graphically demanding but decent latest games at low-med settings (The better the graphics card...the better!) I also…

How can I get Ice Cream Sandwich on my Sensation XE?
I believe Vodafone have announced they are releasing ICS now for my phone. Could be as simple as me getting a Vodafone SIM and sticking it in the phone, then searching for the update.... or is it only valid for the Vodafone branded versions? I bought a HTC Sensation XE from Dial-a-Phone late last year. It was an O2 deal…

Hi-Fi will read MP3 player via USB but not memory sticks.
I've just bought a second hand Hitachi Hi-Fi, with USB socket and SD slot. The USB slot doesn't provide enough power to power a USB stick. It works fine with my MP3 player running off battery, but plug in a USB stick or portable HD - I'd assume the former would require less power - and it doesn't detect it. Is this normal…

MOTOACTV Fitness tracker BEWARE
Having done a considerable amount of research about the new MOTOACTV i decided to treat myself to one. I checked with the staff in John Lewis and they were sure that it would monitor your heart rate straight out of the box, as this is something you would expect for a fitness tracker priced at £249. Imagine my surprise to…

How to connect external hard drive to both TV and computer?
Hi, I have recently discovered that my TV will play video files via USB stick, which is great! I would now like to connect an external hard drive to the TV, and at the same time have it connected to the laptop. What would be the easiest way to do this, and what kind of cables/splitters would I need? Thanks!

Hi all, I've just had a bit more money available to me and really want to treat myself at the moment. My TV is a 28" CRT which whilst it still works ok (very slow to come on though) but I'm massively craving getting a 3D TV. How to extend a laptop 1 year warrenty for free?
Thought to post this on the Techie Thread, as I am already familiar with the Consumer Rights discussions (see here) Marks and Spencer and John Lewis both offer a free 2 year warranty on all laptops they sell.
