MOTOACTV Fitness tracker BEWARE

Having done a considerable amount of research about the new MOTOACTV i decided to treat myself to one. I checked with the staff in John Lewis and they were sure that it would monitor your heart rate straight out of the box, as this is something you would expect for a fitness tracker priced at £249. Imagine my surprise to find that all you can do for your £249 is listen to music and see where you have run, yet not actually be able to "Track your fitness" Considering that for your £249 you get the premium bundle, and the product is advertised as "The worlds first GPS fitness tracker and smart mp3 player. All in one. I think Motorola are a disgrace. rest assured i have contacted them through customer service and am looking for their MD to email and let him know my thoughts too.

I'm sure John Lewis will take it back, and would contact the manufacturer about the apparent misrepresentation. After all, your contract is with the seller.

You should have done a bit more research...there are busy user forums with owners of the MOTOACTV.

Personally, I think it's a waste of money - £250 for something any smart phone will do.

I have contacted Motorola, and John lewis where very good and said that if it did not work as they and i thought to return it. Below is what Mototola have said so far and my reply. And they still say it tracks fitness.

MOTOACTV Hi Chris -- Sorry to hear you're disappointed. As a GPS fitness tracker, it accurately measures your speed, distance, steps and calories. As a smart MP3 player, it measures what songs you perform the best to and organizes your songs into an action-packed playlist. It's the only device that can do both. Additionally, the device pairs to ANT+ and BLE HRMs, BLE headsets, and can also wirelessly sync to MOTOACTV.com where you can monitor and analyze your workouts. Lastly, users get free software upgrades regularly that enhance the functionality of the device. If there's anything you would like us to pass on to the team, please email us at socialme@motorola.com.

Chris Slater I have emailed the team, but also just to add, I appreciate the reply from the team, but to track fitness you need to measure a persons heart rate. If your advertising made it obvious that extra peripherals where needed then i would have no problem, but as per your post below, you are still calling it a fitness tracker but counting calories and distance in no way evaluates my fitness does it. I think for the price it costs it should do everything it advertises straight out of the box. Or your advertising should say that extra peripherals are required. Particularly not call it an all in one, which it cant be if extra devices are needed. I can do 95 percent of wht it promises to do for cheaper so i feel genuinely let down Motorola. Nice try but i think you have dropped the ball here.

Motorollas own spec page for the device claims it monitors heart rate, try trading standards.

The impact of this is to stigmatise people on benefits,

Smart-phones are great for the gym and for people who want to poddle about a bit if you are a serious distance runner then they aren't fit for purpose in the same way as a device like a MOTOACTV is.

Why not? A smart phone will do pretty much anything the MOTOACTV can, with longer battery life plus a decent screen you can see the GPS on.

Again these 'watches' are a waste of £250.

Seriously when you are training for marathons or ultramarathons, you don't want to be running around with a smart-phone - sure if you are doing little distances like 5km and 10km, I can see why people would use a smartphone but for serious training? forget it. I'm not saying the motoactv is a great device but as a device type it's better.
