Android standards' what is 2.3 and 4 android?

Dear all,
i was looking at an Android 2.3 pc tablet and came across an Android 4 tablet pc. what do they refer to and which one is better, pls help.

I would only consider the 4.0 on a good tablet with plenty of storage.I upgraded my 2.3 to 4.0 but as there is no facility to move apps to the storage card with 4.0 have rolled back to the previous version.Also 4.0 or Ice Cream Sandwich is still buggy,high battery usage is being commonly mentioned,however it is very pretty but will wait till more stable.0

Please don't buy a 2.3 tablet. 2.3 (AKA Gingerbread) is for phones. 3 (AKA Honeycomb) is for tablets. 4 (AKA Ice Cream Sandwich) merges the phone and tablet version together.
As you can see, you're looking at a tablet, with a phone OS on it. Don't buy it!0
