travel expenses?
I am on placement for my course, basically 30 hours each week for 10 weeks. We get travel costs, 10p per mile, up to 48 times. now 48 times divided by the number of weeks is travelling 4.8 times a week there and back. Now I travel there and back more like 60-70 times over the course, but the max we can claim from uni is 48…

Reclaiming charges from my University for unpaid tuition fees DD?
Hi, I just thought I would ask if anyone thinks this is worth pursuing. Back in my 3rd year of Uni in 2004 I opted to pay my tuition fees in two installments of just over £500 by direct debit, the first was in September 2003 when I started my year, and the second was in Feb 2004. Of course I forgot all about it and didnt…

Self-catered accomodation.
Hope this query is OK here. Just want to know if anyone has any experience of using Unite accomodation and what they are like as landlords. I've been looking around online and it seems that not all of their buildings are belonging to /allocated to a University. Am I making sense here?

Accommodation Rent troubles
I've had an argument with a member of staff in the university accommodation office - I'm in halls of residence and for the academic year have to pay a total of £3160 in rent. Plus there's a £100 damage deposit when the contract was signed (get this back after moving out and inspected for damage). The £100 cheque was sent,…

The new tuition fees
I got thinking about this the other day. Full time students now pay up to £3000 p/a in tuiton fees. But part time fees haven't really changed at brick universities, previously it cost a very similar amount either way. I worked out the other day (after my ranting post!) that the tuition fees for my course part time actually…

When i was a student
My flatmate and I used to throw BYOB dinner parties. If you can cook then its a great way to save money. Everyone brings a bottle of whatever and you cook a fabulous meal. We used to do themes, like mexican food and everyone brings tequila or french food and everyone brings wine. You don't have to spend much on food if you…

Pyramid Volume
Hi guys, I am having a major blonde moment. I'm trying to work out the area of a pyramid with a triangular base, and I keep getting different answers! The base has sides of 2.62 cm, and the three sides leading to the apex are each 1.85 cm. For the base calculation I am doing (2.62 x 2.62 x 1/2) = 3.4322, but then I keep…

Child of '86 - owed some money?
Hi guys, I was born in 1986 and my friends have been talking about a £1000 investment that was made by the government of the time for every new baby born. Apparently this matures when you're 21 (as I am now), having made some interest, but I've never heard of this. Is this all wishful thinking or is there something to be…

Very mature student - radiography.
A new course in Radiography is starting in Ipswich and I would like a career change. I am waiting for the prospectus to arrive, but can anyone give me any advice as to whether 53 would be regarded as too old?. With the NHS bursary and loans, I would be no worse off then I am now and should then have a good 10 years left in…
