Do they charge for this service? I wouldn't bother personally - if you think you've paid too much tax you can claim it back yourself, using the P50 form you can get from Revenue & Customs website http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/individuals/iwtclaim-a-tax-or-ni-repayment.shtmlDebt@16.12.09 £10,362.38, now debt free as of 29.02.2012."I cannot make my days longer so I strive to make them better."0

i got this email too!! I was thinkin of starting a thread about it
Im very apprehensive about it..0 -
Students tend to start work in the run up to Christmas so they have a whole year's allowances and less than 6 months to earn.
Provided all the forms are correctly filled in PAYE should have deducted the correct annual tax by the 5th of April the next year.
All students should know enough about tax to check that their P60 is correct;
Martin has put a link to a tax checking site in this week's newsletter.
So the message is: Check it yourself and understand the system OR waste your money on a service that has a vested interest in keeping you ignorant and muddled, then you keep coming back year after year.

my advice would be to steer well clear. You can get advice from your Students' Union Advice Centre who will help you for free or from your local tax office."Harry, I'm going to let you in on a little secret. Every day, once a day, give yourself a present. Don't plan it. Don't wait for it. Just let it happen. It could be a new shirt at the men's store, a catnap in your office chair, or two cups of good, hot black coffee."0

I got the same one too, it surprised me because it arrived at my personal email rather than my "junk mail" one that I tend to put into websites.:kisses2: Got married September 2011:smileyhea

I have used this site recently to receive my tax rebate.
I did a placement year as part of my degree and worked from July - June, so I was paying full rate tax from April - June which I could claim nearly all back as I only just went over the tax free limit your allowed.
The website is completly legit but it's pointless unless your so busy you can't do it yourself. I was recommended to it by a friend and as I had loads of revision to do it seemed like the easiest option. Also I had stupidly thrown away my P45 for both my jobs so it was easy just to give them a few quick details and wait for the cheque...however I did pay 15% of my rebate for the pleasure:eek: ! Obviously BEFORE i joined this money saving website!!
My housemate did it herself and it's really not that difficult to get the ta back yourself it just takes a bit of time for the Inland revenue to process it and they may send you additional forms etc. If you look on their website all the info is on there.
Hope this helps!0 -
I quit work in the August to start uni in the September (a couple of years ago now). I just phoned the Inland Revenue, they sent me a really easy form (it was maybe 2 pages) and I had my money within 2 weeks. The whole process was easy, efficient and the people were friendly. Coulda knocked me down with a feather!0

I have 2 years of emergency tax to claim back now from working at M&S. (I have the p60's to show how much I have earnt each year there)
However I also do the local free newspaper deliveries of which I earn £30 a week doing. I do NOT a end of year P60 for the newspapers, rather they just set me a record of how much I earn each week which I had to add up and work out.
They do NOT take tax off me for the newspapers. The tax people know that i do newspapers because i had to declare that i was doing them when i was 16.
I do not have to pay tax and need to claim It all back. I have about a £1,000 to claim back. How do i prove how much i earnt from doing the newspapers? do i have to send them something after i have filled in the form to claim my tax back?
Thanks0 -
I'd recommend giving the Inland Revenue a call. Take a look on their website for the right number. They're probably the best people to tell you what they will accept as evidence of earnings. I've always found them to be very helpful and efficient on the phone (unlike the tax credits lot!).0
