Child of '86 - owed some money?

Hi guys,
I was born in 1986 and my friends have been talking about a £1000 investment that was made by the government of the time for every new baby born. Apparently this matures when you're 21 (as I am now), having made some interest, but I've never heard of this.
Is this all wishful thinking or is there something to be claimed here? (All sounds quite similar to the Child Trust Fund I know but thought this was a more appropriate place to post.)
Thanks very much.

I have a son who was born in 1986 and I know nothing of this. could your mates be having you on? sounds like a wind up to me.August 2009 grocery challenge £172.64/,,,,,
no point in doing grocery challenges, have no money left over to eat :0/0 -
If the government put away £1000 for each child born it would cost them thousands of millions each year. It doesnt sound very realistic.
I think you've been the victim of a wind up.... :rotfl:Undefeated Wii Fit ski jump champion!

tell you what - if its true and just for people born in 1986 I'll start up a petition of my own.
I think they're having you on though mate.0 -
No, it isn't real. They only introduced the child fund a few years back at between 250 and 500 quid, so sorry to be the bearer of bad news.0

Nope.
There is a bit for 1987-er's who are still in further education though, if your born after 19th April 1987. Only Child Benefit thoughNo longer using this account for new posts from 20130 -
Hoho cheers to all replies, blatantly this was a one-pint-too-many conversation I took too seriously.
E-petition sounds like good plan though, maybe they could reinvest the revenue from the pay-per-mile scheme!0
