Going back to college - can i get any benefits???

I'm 28 at the moment, will be 29 when the course starts in September. I will have to go back to part time work, i'm on a low paid full time job at the moment. So will either go part time there, or look elsewhere.

Both of my parents are retired and i'm currently living at home, the course is a btec national diploma in art and design. So doubt i would be eligible for a student loan.

Any idea if i can get any benefits, rebates for travel etc???

seriously doubt it. Contact local LEA they may be able to tell you. You may have circumstances for enquiry.

If you don't already hold a full level 3 qualification then you should be eligible for an Adult Learning Grant (£30 per week). Is there an Access course available locally in Art and Design ( I assume that you're planning on going to university afterwards)? This will normally be for only a year and have fewer hours attendance than doing a BTEC. This is often a better entry route for adults.

I've already got a gnvq advanced business qualification, but obviously this won't go towards the art qualification. Will this effect me getting the adult learing grant?

The btec is for one year, says full time but on the matthew bolton college site it says 15 hours per week. I've already been doing a evening class in art run by the college that runs the btec course.

There won't be any student funding available for that I'm afraid.

If you are on a low income though, you might get Working Tax Credit
