Casual work
Just had word that my work (2nd job) are 'rebranding' and we are invited to a meeting in Jan. Not really sure what this will mean but I suspect we'll all be made redundant and be given the oppertunity to apply for new posts? I just wondered if anyone has worked for a company that has rebranded itself and what happened? As…

Redundancy to save on pension-Is it legal?
I am due to retire in a few years after 40 years. Unfortunately, there are redundancies looming and I am worried I will be in the firing line as they would obviously make massive savings by making me redundant now rather than waiting for me to get my pension. They will be using a skills matrix and obviously a lot of the…

Cap on Redundancy
Hi I see from the HMRC website that statutory redundancy is capped to 20 weeks. My work have offered voluntary redundancy before compulsory redundancies take place and have capped their offer to 12 weeks. Are they allowed to cap it to 12 weeks or does it need to be in line with statutory? Thanks

Redundancy insurance??
Afternoon all I've been working for the same company for 19 years and have heard rumours that the owners (now quite old) wish to sell up and retire. Back in July i asked if there was any truth to the rumours but they were quite adamant that business would still continue. Now, 5 months on and business has been tough the…

Voluntary Redundancy
Hi, my mum is confused. She applied for her employers Voluntary Early Release Scheme and has today recieved an offer letter with a lump sum offer for 29th March 2013. She is 60 and her current pension statement for that date is also reading a lump sum plus and annual amount. If she takes the voluntary early release, will…

Redundancy whilst on reduced work.
My company is making about 50 of us redundant next week. I spoke to CAB for advice who told me that I couldnt be made redundant whilst I was off work with a sick note. I'm waiting for surgery on an injury that restricts my ability to get in to the clean environment I work in. When my sick note ran out my doctor signed me a…

HMRC Problems with Reclaiming
Hi all, I took voluntary redundancy in April and have not worked since, nor have I claimed any benefits. HMRC taxed the element of my payment that exceeded £30,000 but the amount, all but a small part, fell into my tax free allowance and so since May I have been trying to claim back over £2000 in tax. HMRC have messed me…

Second consultation..competitor job offer
Hello all hope someone can offer advice. I had my second redundancy consultation last Friday and was given a letter stating my redundancy calculation and date of termination been 21/12/11. In the meantime I've been offered a job with what could be perceived as a competitor where they want me to start early next year. My…

Hi, My Employer is trying to change my Redundancy terms and conditions, with the threat of Form HR1. Are they legally aloud to do this? They are targeting employees that were employed before 1st September 1996 (when the company was privatised) Our Redundancy terms at present are what civil servants used to get. We all…

Chnage of justification during 90-day consultation?
Is it legitimate for an employer to change the justification given for redundancy for a pool part-way through the 90-day collective consultancy period? I suspect this is in the process of happening, and wondered if this is considered grounds for a potential claim for unfair dismissal.

Redundancy Payment not same as quote amount
I've just received my redundancy payment and it's lower than the amount I was quoted with my official notice of redundancy. I'm being offered (slightly!) more than statutory redundancy so I have no idea how the company has calculated it (either time). Obviously I am going to query it, but if the company comes back with…

Redundancy - what steps do I take now?
I posted a few weeks back that I was under notice of potential redundancy - not surprisingly (there is a back-story...) that became full redundancy last week. As a result, I have a few questions! In no particular order... My finishing date is Feb 5th. Is the date for redundancy pay calculations the date on which you are…

How Have You Done Since Redundancy?
Hi All, As it looks likely that I will be forced to take compulsory redundancy I was wondering how people that have been made redundant in the past have done following it? I'm due to get 12k paid to me for 6 years of service; my gross salary would have been 22k p/a. I do worry that I will not find a job that pays quite as…

I am redundant from my job as of the 6th December and know nothing about what benefits I may be entitled to. I have a 9 month old baby and my notice period at work runs into my maternity leave.
