Redundancy,JSA and Govt National Insurance Fund

Options
Il keep it brief & stick to the facts folks

Made redundant recently, was informed that the firm was going bust on monthly payday and there was no salary being paid this month.
Obviously, although the salary vanished (),your living costs do not,as my direct debits, rent, bills etc leave my account the day after payday,I hastily borrowed a £1000 of a friend to keep everything going and paid in the short term.
I did this happily because I was told that, although it would take a month or two,the Government NIF redundancy fund would pay back my wages, and holiday pay due,so when that came in I would pay my friend straight back.

So iv signed onto JSA,but iv since been told by someone, that when the Governments fund pays out, this will be taken off/or in leiu of JSA!!
So if I have to live of this cash how the hell am I supposed to pay my mate back?! Im really angry about this because as I said, your living costs dont vanish, and if I got my pay back from the fund, ultimatly, apart from waiting I would be no worse off,but whats the point of this fund if they literally give it you with one hand, then take away on the other??!

If this is true the upshot is after if come off the dole and get another job(if Im lucky!),I will still have lost and be worse off by a full months pay!!
Surely this is wrong,if someone has similiar experience if they could let me know that would be great....cheers

    Hi,

As long as you have been working and paying National Insurance contributions in the last two tax years, you will be able to get Contribution Based Job Seekers Allowance. This entitlement has nothing to do with redundancy payout.

There might be an upper limit where you don't get JSA but trust me its so high that you wouldn't need to be asking on here :D;)
Also, I beleive there is a clause if you are claiming any sort of pension.

This lasts for six months after which its income based, depends on other income which you have.
