HMRC Problems with Reclaiming

Hi all,
I took voluntary redundancy in April and have not worked since, nor have I claimed any benefits. HMRC taxed the element of my payment that exceeded £30,000 but the amount, all but a small part, fell into my tax free allowance and so since May I have been trying to claim back over £2000 in tax.
HMRC have messed me about royally, written to me at least 3 times, each time with a new reason as to why they don't have everything they need to refund my money, one of the last letters asked for a document I had send them months ago. Getting very, very frustrated!
The last letter I had said they are currently unable to deal with refunds concerning payments made by Capita (the company that dealt with my compensation payment) but giving no reason, and telling me they will get back to me.
In my mind they are withholding my money and they have no reason to do so, it's not an insignificant amount and I am getting increasingly mad.
What can I do, has anyone else had a similar issue?

Have you sent in a P50.0

Hi, I've sent all the relevant forms. Firstly I sent what I was advised to by Capita, then I was asked to send some more information, then they wrote a second time to ask me to complete another form, laying out the information they already had in a different format. Then they asked me to send something I had already sent the first time, and now they are telling me they are unable to process the claim at present.0

WHat forms, all HMRC forms have proper titles.
Have you sent in a P50.
that is the official for for a tax rebate if you are not planning to work or claim JSA.
Simple yes or no will do.0 -

Yes. I'll try to refrain from too much banter in future.0 -
OK if you have processed a P50 focus on that, the P45 should be all they need to process the refund asuming the tax has actualy been paid.
Could it be that some of the payment eg PILON or holiday pay was actualy taxable.
Do you have any pension income?
If it continues I would get the self assesment ready to file 6 April. (this asumes these payments were in this tax year and not last year)0 -
I'm lead to believe that HMRC won't be able to do anything about 2012/13 tax year until it ends in April 2013. I've filled in a P50 and whilst they've looked abck at 2011/12 and 2010/11 they haven't looked at 2012/13 as we are still in it and THAT's what I put the P50 in for - although I have claimed JSA for 6 months I am not earning any money and think that I should get the tax I have paid on some money that was paid after my redundancy back.just in case you need to know:

THe P50 is to say you will not have any more taxable earning in the tax year that includes pensions and JSA, if you get either of those you cannot use a P50 any adjustments are done through the tax code.
It may be that HMRC don't like processing P50 because some then go on to get other jobs or put in a JSA claim once they have the refund.0
