WW2 lifestyle in 2018
Hello, I am looking for a list of rations that came under the points system, as I am trying to simplify our diet as well as having a very limited budget to live on. I have read the books etc all about weekly and monthly rations on say meat, butter, sugar etc, but it is the 'extras' that's you bought with the points system…

The Annual Christmas card list
Ours is massive due to a multitude of connections over the years. However, more recently we,ve stopped hearing from some people and honestly don’t know if they’ve moved, died or just don’t send cards any more, which if you only keep in touch at Christmas, effectively breaks the bond. We need to rationalise our list because…

A Simpler Life 2018
Every year at about this time, I get a yearning for a more simple way of life. A life that doesn't involve being bombarded with endless ads for x% off or buy a new sofa/kitchen/table/bed/car or your Christmas holiday will become a fate worse than death  It really does get to me. I hate consumerism in general. It…

Food processors - what to look for and best buys
Hiya All Sorry to have been absent for so long but we had a bereavement in the family which threw my already chaotic life into more madness! Anyhoo that seems to be getting behind us now and my son and family hope to be able to move out in the spring. Which brings me to the reason for this post. While they have been here…

Help! Angel wings nativity
Hi all My daughter is panicking as DGS is to be an angel in the nursery nativity play. We can do most of the costume but angel wings? What materials would be best to use and how to attach them? The white part of his costume is a t shirt. He is three and a half and little for his age. I have searched on line and there is…

Quick and sometimes obvious time savers..
Since this is such a busy time I wondered if anyone had some easy time savers that worked for them? Starting the Christmas card preparations I've realised that writing the cards out by hand is much quicker than designing and printing address labels which I have been doing for the last few years. It also gives me some…

Changing up loose change.
I am having a major declutter of my house and have come across a big box of change (all legal tender) that we used to our spare change into. There is a lot of change in there and I was wondering what to do with it. Coinstar seem a bit of a ripoff and my local bank will only take a limited number of change bags at any one…

Bulk Buying Question
I'm thinking of buying bulk foods and so was doing some research regarding this. Since this is a product I do have, I decided to look at Quaker Porridge Oats as an example so I can get a comparison for the same product from multiple sources. Now I am wondering whether it is worth buying bulk at all... For example take this…

Weekly Flylady Thread - 27th November 2017
What is FLYLADY? Well, it's our version of the US flylady idea - but we work on the principle that housework is not fun, it's boring, can be time-consuming, is often thankless but, unfortunately, necessary. It's here on Old Style to provide the support we all need and to make the whole task easier and quicker. We also…

What was day to day food in your childhood?
Hi, I'm aware of price rises across the board whenever I shop and also those welcome YS bargains are very thin on the ground these days too. I'm trying to remember the meals we had as 'everyday' meals way back when to see if I can give us tasty meals from simpler ingredients and also cut back on some of the outlay on the…
